Re: my portable pc does not have any sound
You could re-install/rollback drivers or if the Windows Audio service isn't running you could do this to fix it:
Go to run type services.msc look for Windows Audio under the Services Menu. Right-click it and click 'Start' hope this fixes it! get back to me :]

Installing the external CD Player...
You will go and start up and install Windows XP by doing he following:
Plug in your external CD drive, and let windows install it into the system...
Once the CD is ready to go, shut down the computer.
You will first need to format your hard drive, I will give you instructions on how to do that.
1...To format your hard drive and install XP:
To set you computer back to factory fresh settings you will need to format the hard drive and install the XP operating system and the drivers.
1.Format the hard drive: You do this by double left clicking on "My Computer",then double left click the main drive (normally C drive). When the window pops open, you will choose "Format" Keep in mind that once you format your hard drive you will loose all your files, programs, pictures, etc that you installed since the computer was new. So make your back up on a portable hard drive, thumb drive, etc.
2. Once the formatting of the hard drive is complete you will need to install the XP operating system along with the drivers. You will now insert the CD's into your external CD player starting with #1 first and continuing until all has been installed.
After all has been installed, shut your computer off and restart.
That will bring your computer back to Windows XP factory new condition as far as operating is concerned. Please take time to rate me
Has it worked in the past or is this a new drive?
if this is a new drive, make sure it's connected to yout computer and installed (there may be some drivers that are required from the vendor - perhaps on cd/dvd)
Also, you may need to format the drive in order for it to work.
Possible that the format is not recognized as the format required for the player or the files are corrupt and the player does not recognize them.
Connect player to a PC and check the properties, if not copy them format and reload with the correct type- after conversion.
do you have CDs or most of files back up on your PC / laptop? if yes we can continue on... plug device up to PC, go to my computer open it... we only want to copy the software and hidden software too (no media files) and save in a temp folder on the pc... once we saved all the software to that temp folder on the PC... go back the the device right click and format (yes format will delete every thing on the device) say okay.... this should take 30 sec to a full minute...once format is complete, that software we saved go get it and copy (re install) back to device. Now it is like new all over again, you can add all your files back again....... note if you have recently downloaded files don't put those on they may be damage or corrupt .... have fun and enjoy
You may want to check the hard drive - sounds like it may be starting to fail. When it reaches the point of not continuing does it start to click? If you hear clicking then the drive is having issues and its time for a new one.
Probably you have a defective hard drive. Scan it's surface with acronis partition expert. If it finds a bunch of defective sectors, replace the drive. If it finds some bad sectors, backup your data and replace or use it and risk losing data.
All disks can be formatted or Erased, what you need is the Software to do it. I found Acronis to be the best software for this job, you just insert the disk and follow the instructions. But be careful, once formatted you can not retrieve any info back, and it also formats your Boot to where you have no system at all installed. You will then have to insert a system disk of your choice and install it to your new clean drive. Good Luck.
Try plugging your hard drive into your mac, open "Disk Utility" select your hard drive in the list on the side, Click RAID, change the Volume Format to MS-DOS (FAT), and it should work.
Hope this helps!
