Question about HP Pavilion zd8000 Notebook

1 Answer

I haven't had any problems with my laptop in almost the two years of me having it. I don't know if it's a coinsidence or if it's the anti virus protection that I installed that caused my problem. I installed the Norton 350 4.0 It has happened twice within a couple weeks. I would start the computer and the blue screen popped up saying a hard drive malfunction. It's able to fix itself and then it works fine. Is it Norton or is it somethign else and what can I do to check for the problem? I'm not that good with computers so don't throw out too many computer!!

If I were you and have 2nd notebook/pc available, I will spend around $10 to convert internal HD into external usb HD. and check the HD in 2nd pc/notebook.
to me it definitely non-related to Norton 350 4.0 you installed.
my shortest notebook's life was 2 years and 4 months. the screen is totally black without any foreplay at all.

How to keep your computer virus free

Many people that I have helped with computer viruses had recently purchased new computers which have virus protection included in the software bundle. The problem with these virus protection programs is that the updates are only good for the first year. After that, you must pay a fee to continue to get virus updates.

Many consumers don't realize this and after the year is up, do not renew the membership with the anti-virus company, leaving their computer unprotected from incoming viruses.

So, if you purchased a computer over a year ago, be aware of this problem. You will need to pay the yearly fee to maintain your anti-virus updates or get another anti-virus software available on the market.

There are some anti virus programs that are free or low cost. I have found AVG to provide a good quality free anti-virus program for home users. You can access the download at

Also, remember to be aware of emails from senders that you are not familiar with. Also be very careful about opening attachments on any emails. Be sure you know who sent them to you. Even then, if your not sure, verify with the sender that they actually sent this attachment to you before opening it. Email attachments are one of the most common ways of spreading viruses.

So, be careful and happy surfing!

Top 5 Paid Anti-Virus Software

With the brand-new Windows 7 operating system released late last year, many computer users opt to install some sort of anti-virus. There are free versions available, but are not routinely kept up-to-date as a paid version. Plus paid versions offer a better support and look nicer to the eye. Here are my best anti-virus programs for 2010.

1. GData Anti-Virus 2010 $25 (one year, single PC license)
Based off of two free anti-viruses BitDefender and Avast, German developed GData brings the two together to form the best anti-virus. GData detected 99.95% of all threats tested and offered the best detection of adware. With its relative low-cost GData is my recommendation for best anti-virus.

2. Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 2010 $40 (one year, single PC license)
Coming in a close second is the more popular Norton Anti-Virus. The detection rate was 99.49%, just shy of GData. With a great user interface and design, Norton remains one of the better anti-virus programs in 2010 and may better suit non-techie users.
3. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 $60 (one year, three PC license)
In previous years, Kaspersky has always been at the top, but with this year it has slid down to third. Kaspersky has a wide range of features including a firewall and advanced virus blocking but fails to provide a slick, user-friendly interface unlike the first two anti-virus programs which can get frustrating and confusing. The malware detection also lacks which maybe a problem on some users PC's.

4. BitDefender Anti-Virus 2010 $30 (one year, three PC license)
BitDefender is a decent anti-virus program. Although the detection rate is 99.66%, the second best in the field. What it lacks is a good user interface and fails to remove threats. Only 90% of threats detected were removed successfully. This is defiantly a bargain on price but lacks in some areas where it maybe useful.

5. Panda Anti-Virus Pro 2010 $50 (one year, three PC license)
Panda Anti-Virus Pro had a 99.83% detection rating, earning it the best in the field. Although it can detect threats, it did poorly in behavioral scans of the PC. Panda also does not come with its own firewall, unlike all the anti-virus programs mentioned. The user interface needs some work around the edges and design could be better. Panda will get the job done, but is a last-ditch option for paid anti-virus programs.

Before you buy, make sure to do research and know what product you want to buy. Don't let the sales people influence you to go with the costlier option, because they say its better. Trust your research and be smart.

I just bought a Asus K53E-BBR9 intelcore15/4gb/500 for 479.99 that i pick up tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if its a good brand or not I just need the basics nothing fancy it also...

ASUS is a wonderful laptop company, you will be very happy with it for years to come. I don't work for ASUS just saying. Also please make the DVD Recovery Discs and uninstall the Trend Micro Anti-Virus it comes with and visit and download and install that FREE ANTI-VIRUS from Microsoft. I sell many ASUS's and highly recommend all of these steps.

Have Fun!

My mailbox sent blank e-mail to my contacts randomly without me sending them thiese blank e-mail

You should scan your computer for viruses and malwares. There are many types of virus that sends emails automatically, especially if you are using microsoft outlook. If you don't have an anti-virus, you can get them for free. Avira anti-virus is recommended.

Let me know if it is fixed or if you are still having problems. =)
