Formatting errors on 2 memory cards - old 1gb & new...

Hi there, I'm having problems with formatting these cards on both my laptop and phone (nokia E65).. When attempting it on the phone it tells me both cards are corrupted and on the laptop the 1gb card cannot be accessed (think this has probably had it after previous problem with another adapter). When attempting to format the new 4gb card it requests the card to be formatted then tells me theres no card in the drive?
