Question about Sony NW-E505 MP3 Player
Hi! The walkman's internal hardware could be faulty that the only thing that works is the usb port that's why it can still play on media player. It's like a hardware crash that will surely needs replacement. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

The NO DATA or FORMAT ERROR message may occur if the portable player has been formatted using the format utility in Windows Explorer. To correct this issue, initialize (format) the portable player using the Initialize or Format utility built into your Walkman player.
Reset the unit by pressing the RESET button with a small object such as a paper clip.
If the issue persists, I suggest that you un-install and reinstall the latest version of the Sonic Stage Software and transfer the songs again to resolve the issue. Click here to download the latest version of the SonicStage Software.
This should resolve the issue.
