Question about HP DeskJet F380 All-In-One Printer

1 Answer

I have an HP Desktop F380 All-In-One. When I print on it, there are little blank lines through the text. A friend told me that I need to clean the heads. Is this right, and if so, how do I do it?

It got me looking and thinking right. I looked up the owner's manual on the hp site. It doesn't recommend clean the head directly, but instead showed how to clean the copper colored contacts on the ink cartridge.

Hello,

Your friend is very right, follow the guideline below to clean the print head of your printer.
First, remove your ink cartridges from your printer and then dip a cotton swab in hot water or isopropyl alcohol and rub it against the print head. This should loosen any crusted ink. Some printers, such as many Canon models, feature removable print heads that give you easy access to the print head and its nozzle(s). Many other inkjet printers don’t have this feature, so you’ll have to do your best to work around parts in your printer. Be careful, especially if you use isopropyl alcohol to clean your print heads: Some printers use rubber gaskets; if you get isopropyl alcohol on the gaskets, it could dry them out.

If you have a removable print head, remove the ink cartridge from the print head and take the print head out of your printer. Put some hot water into a saucer and set the printer head in the saucer. Let it soak for at least an hour. If it’s really dirty, it might be a good idea to let it soak overnight. Let it air dry, reinstall it in your computer, and run a cleaning cycle. This should get rid of any dried ink that was loosened during the soaking.

Take care.

How do I know if the print head is removable? I took the two ink cartridges out, but i don't know where the head surface is that I should be cleaning.

Thanks, you got me looking in the right places and thinking. i looked up the owner's manual on the HP site, and figured out that what I needed to do was to clean the copper colored contacts on the ink cartridge.

HP all-in-one F380 only prints top half of the page, and sometimes that is pretty faded. What to do?

Replace the ink-cartridges, because they are just about empty.
When ink is pulled from the cartridge, there is just enough ink to print a "low-density" page,
or a few lines of text, but there's not enough ink to "freely" flow, on demand, to ink a full page.

My HP Deskjet F380 will only print blank pages. There is plenty of ink left in both cartridges. I've been on the HP help site. It didn't help. It won't photocopy either. It printed the top part...

the body of text of the test page is black ink. From what you describe, the print heads are clogged. Most HPs use cartridges that have the head built in, but if not used for an externded period they can dry up and clog.
Try repeated head cleanings (10 or more) see if any change. If none, try new HP ink cartridges

Deskjet F380 is normaly printing but it will print blank

If the printer is printing blank pages, make sure you are using the correct printer driver and make sure the paper size is correctly selected in the driver. If the printer is printing black only, the Ink option in the printer driver may be set to Black instead of Color or a setting in the software may be set to print black only. Also, the print head nozzles may be clogged. From the Utility section found in the printer driver, clean the print heads by performing a head cleaning followed by printing a nozzle check pattern. A head cleaning and nozzle check must be performed as a cycle. After printing a nozzle check, examine the printed dot pattern. Each staggered horizontal and straight vertical line should be complete, with no gaps in the dot pattern. If there are gaps in the dot pattern, continue with another cycle. Performing up to 6 cleaning cycles is not uncommon if the print heads are severly clogged.
