Question about Kitchen Ranges

GE XL44 Oven/Broiler don't work

Like everyone else, I'm having problems with my oven. However, my broiler won't work either.

My husband thinks the gas is not getting to it but we couldn't find any problems.

My model number is JGBS22BEA2WH

Any ideas?

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. You are correct, the burners work ust fine.

I downloaded the manual as you suggsted and checked the gas shut off valve. It appears to be fine.

One other thing I didn't mention; once in awhile, if I tun he oven on & wait for a minute or two, I can start a top burner & the oven will then light. It doesn't always work but once in awhile it will.

It also looks like my model only has ne igniter for the oven & the broiler.

    Thanks for your assistance

Sorry jsrock516, your solution was very helpful.

I didn't plan on rating "Thanks for trying". Sometimes my mouse moves quicker than I plan.

I'm still working on the stove problem. Not sure how it would be the igniter if the oven will light by turning on a burner.

I'm assuming the top burners work, correct? Do you still have your Owner's manual? If so, go to the "Troubleshooting Tips" section and look under the "Surface Burners Light but Oven Does Not" tips. Follow the guidance provided. You may have a gas safety valve that is turned off.

If you do not have an owner's manual, you can go to geappliances.com. Click in the Search window and go to "Use and Care Manuals. Then, type in your model number in the adjacent window. You manual is available there in .pdf format. You can download a copy if you like. Make sure you have Adobe Acrobat reader in order to view it.

Now, if it's not as simple as a gas safety valve turned off, you may have two igniters that have gone bad at the same time. It is not common, but I have seen this happen before. Just because an igniter glows does not necessarily mean it is good. Click on the link below to learn about oven igniters.

Double check the gas safety valve and reply back to me. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Why the "Thanks for Trying" rating if you said this was helpful to you?

Okay...it is correct that your range only has ONE igniter for the oven. That's because you have an under oven broiler. I have experienced this problem before where the input gas pressure coming in from the line was too high and caused the oven to fail to light. When one of the top burners was turned on, the gas pressure would lower enough to allow the oven to ignite. You only have one gas safety valve on the range (part #WB19K31), and you are able to light the top burners and oven (even if it is a rather inconvenient way of lighting the oven). It still may be putting out the wrong pressure. I would recommend a safety valve replacement and/or have the gas company come check your line to make sure the gas pressure is correct. Most appliance repairmen will not touch gas line problems, because they aren't certified to do so. Better to be safe. Let me know if you have further questions and/or need assistance locating parts.

GE XL44 Oven and stovetop work - broiler does not work

The broiler is the top element in the oven. Look at it. Bad ones sometimes have burnt into or have a melted spot. If it looks ok take it out by removing the screws at the back and pull the wires out a little and unplug the element. With an ohm meter it should show continuity. Replace it if any of these things apply.

Oven and Broiler not working

The gas supply valve to the oven/broiler is the likely culprit. It is a separate valve from the stovetop. I've had the same problems and had to replace mine twice now. They are very expensive, (about 100 dollars) considering the cost of the whole stove. It is located
inside the broiler drawer on the very back wall.

GE XL44... Oven does not work. It was working just fine one day & then would not work. Everything else works fine. Stove has electric ignitiion. Could it be it is not working on the oven? Any ideas?

Ours is a xl44 spectra oven will not ignite, broiler sometimes.

Don't you regret now to have shoved your old range out the door? Sorry, it just seems that each time we replace something we end up regretting it.

Your problem is appparently not uncommon and while the model numbers differ, I think you will find the solution in the discussion lined below:
