Check internel HD first (very possible it is OK).
you can spend around $10 to convert internal HD into external usb HD, if you have 2nd available pc/notebook then you can easily verify it.
if it is OK then you got more serious problem.

Computer keeps shutting down itself on start up

The most likely cause is that you have picked up a virus in an email and unless you have a clean backup of contents all is likely lost without expensive intervention at very high tech level within Microsoft and even then it may not work. Can you boot to safe mode? If so, try to run spyware to seach the disk. I'm not optimisitic that you'll be able to boot to safe mode even.

Do you have the rescue disk that came with the system? Try rebuilding the system, although you may well perpetuate the virus regardless of using the factory rebuild disk because it is extremely difficult to delete even with multiple reformats.

Few minutes after Windows starts the computer screen shows this blue screen with lots of white text and then it shuts itself off, then it restarts itself and then again, the blue screen and it shuts itself...

So many computer face this blue screen fetal errors on windows.

This error comes usually when there is problem in software or driver compatibility issue with hardware or operating system.
Also this error comes when there is bed indexing unit in hard drive.
You can solve this errors with following 2 methods.
(1)When you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in safe mode.
Then if you are able to enter in safe mode then uninstall driver or software which you installed recently and face this error.
(2)If you are not able to enter in safe mode Then you need to fix error on hard drive. For that you need windows disk or recovery disk.
Boot your computer with that disk
For that when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 "del" key to enter in bios.
Then go to boot menu and set first boot device as your cd or dvd rom.
Then save settings and exit bios.
Insert windows disk in cd /dvd rom.
Then it boot with that disk. Then you get this message "Press any key to boot from cd.."
Then press any key.
Then follow the procedure then enter in recovery console mode then type in prompt "chkdsk /r"
Then type "y"
Then it fix error on hard drive.
Then check if again you are not able to enter in windows then boot again and this time choose "R" option for repair previous windows " then it repairs old windows then it loads again old windows.
Thanks for using FixYa.

IT WON'T GO TO BOOT MENU. WON'T GIVE THE OPTION TO SAFE MODE. AND SHUTS DOWN WHEN I CLICK ON THE RECOMMENDED REBOOT. i RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND IT SAID THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE S.A.T.A. DISK...

Boot to your Windows CD, If XP go to recovery console (R at the first prompt) and run the CHKDSK /R command. If that fails t fix, then boot to the XP CD again an do a repair installation of Windows.
If Vista, Boot to the DVD and run the Repair my Computer option. It may take as many as 5 runs thru the repair process to fix, and if that fails, again, a repair installation of Windows.
If that fails to resolve, then a CLEAN install of Windows. If that doesn't work the replace the hard drive.

My Desktop Computer won't start up.

Mine has crashed. So has yours. It has crashed. You must try to boot it with a boot disc made for the operating system. As its 8 years old the manufacturer wont sell you a boot disk but you can buy a boot disk for the correct version ofwindows

It keeps shutting down on us

Hello,

If this just started it could be that it is overheating. Make sure that the tower itself is in open air so that it can circulate enough air. If its in a computer desk that may not have enough room I would temporarily move it out of there and see it that stops the problem.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate this information.

Thanks

I am trying to format my laptop and its letting me do that but when it shuts down after formating to install windows it just boot the cd up again to formating. any idea why ?

After you're done installing the windows components from the setup CD your computer will restart , then while its restarting it will ask you again to Press any key to Boot from CD so in order for it to continue the installation of the operating system dont press any key, just let it load by itself then that should continue now with the operating system setup..

Hope that helps...............
