I don't know how it works but you get Wii Shop Points by either buying them with your credit card or going to a game store and buying them there. Then you add your Wii shop points and buy the channel. There are some channels that are free. The internet channel is not.

Go into the Wii Menu (Wii icon on the main menu screen.
Select "Wii Settings," then "Internet," and "Connection Settings."
Erase your existing Internet Connection Settings and set up a new connection. (Click here for help)
Once you have established and tested a successful connection test, try the connection to the Wii Shop again.
If you have verified that your Wii console's internet connection is working, then there could be a temporary issue with the Wii Shop Channel. Please wait awhile and your connection again.

To get the Internet Channel for Wii, you must have an active network connection for your Wii. Then you need to go to the Wii Shop Channel. Important Notes about the Internet Channel and Opera Browser
The information on this page describes the features found in the latest version of the Internet Channel (ver. 9.30). You can identify the version number of your Internet Channel by selecting the Opera/Home icon in the tool bar of the browser, then clicking on the "Opera Powered" icon at the top of the screen.
USB keyboard support is only available for version 9.30. Visit the Wii Channels section of the Wii Shop Channel to obtain the latest version.
The Internet Channel supports http and https. It is not compatible with other types of protocols, such as ftp, mailto, etc.
The Internet Channel is compatible with Flash, up to version 8. It is compatible with all earlier versions, but versions higher than 8 will not be compatible. There is currently no way to download and install higher versions of the Flash Player to the Wii console.
You can allow access to the Internet Channel through the Parental Controls of the Wii. If the controls are enabled, access to the Internet Channel will require the PIN to be entereed.
When entering website address, you do not need to type in "http://"; however, websites that begin with "https://" will need to be entered in full.
The Classic Controller, Nintendo GameCube Controller, and Nunchuk are not used with the Internet Channel. In addition, only one Wii Remote will work with the Internet Channel at a time. Many types of video playback, such as QuickTime (.avi) and Windows Media Video (.wmv) are not compatible with the Opera Browser and will not play.

The Wii console supports cookies. At this time, there is no way to delete cookies without deleting the Internet Channel's saved data from the system memory

yea you have to go to one of the channels if there is not one go to the wii shop channel and go to installations and install the internet and when its done intalling it (it may take a while) should work the internet with the wii isnt that fast and cant take on some websites (dont worry it can take youtube and its pretty fast on that website) sometimes when you chek the wii installations on the wii shop channel there will sometimes be new updates for internet channel (free)
