To get the recovery disk to load start computer watch the bottom of screen it will tell you to press F2 to get into setup, click the boot option tab, highlight cd/dvd drive, then by pressing + or - or F5 or F6 which will move it up to top, then go to tab that says exit and save, select yes. put recovery disc into cd/dvd drive and restart.

Hiw do reset my Sylvania tab N77C when it stops at boot and It cant open the recovery mode

Right after you press the power on button begin pressing the F8 key. This will open a screen where you can select "Safe Mode", then hit the Enter key on your keyboard. Wait for Safe Mode to boot up (may take a minute or so). Then try opening Recovery mode or System Restore. Failing this, insert your Windows installation disk or Windows emergency repair/boot disk and follow instructions to access Recovery Mode.

Laptop will not power up past the Toshiba startup page

Hi mauweis,

You can try to boot the system using Safe Mode and try to see it it will be able to boot so that you will be able to backup your file. In addition to that you disable other programs that might be causing the system not to boot up. Go to Safe Mode by reseting the computer then tapping F8. If your able to acces safe mode follow these instructions:
1. Go to Start then click on RUN.
2. Type MSCONFIG.
3. Go to Services Tab, click Hide Microsoft Services then click Disable All.
4. Reboot the computer and see it it will go to normal mode. It you will be able to boot to normal mode it only means that one of the installed software is preventing windows to load.
5. if still cant boot you neet to reformat the system. You can use a Recovery Disk that came with the system or you do a Hard Disk Recovery. I've listed here the link of the manual on how to do a Hard Disk Recovery. Manual 1 and Manual 2

Thanks for using Fixya.

you have what they call a boot sector virus best way to fix it is with a system recovery disk but if you go into bios and make sure your hard drive is there and that it is listed as first in boot order?
also if you have a floppy drive you can make some boot floppy recovery disk from www.bootdisk.com

When the system boots up, click on the start button, then click on run and type msconfig and hit enter. Go to the Boot tab, look at the lower box and uncheck "safe boot" if it is checked.

Loops on the "Windows did not start successfully" screen. No mater wich option I pick. Running Xp Home. Also is there a backup on the Aspire?

Sounds like it could be a corrupt hard disk. Try the following. as soon as the computer boots tap F8 continually until it brings you to the safe mode menu, which will allow you to boot to a recovery version of windows. Try booting in to all three safe mode, safe mode with networking or safe mode (alternate shell). If one of them load then open up a command prompt by going start>run and typing CMD (the "alternate shell" option will bring this up to begin with). Once this window is loaded type the following "chkdsk c: /r". It will say it cannot lock the drive, do you want to schedule a disk check for the next boot, press y to answer yes, then reboot the computer and let it scan. If you cannot get to any of the safe mode options then you'll need either a windows CD or ubuntu netbook edition on a USB pen to fix it, let me know how you get along.

p.s. I dont think the aspire has a recovery partition, did it come with any media to reinstall it?
