How to remove rear drums

Hi M, Chock the front wheels and jack up the rear. Release the park brake and then tap around the drum with a hammer. Pull the drum towards you. If the drum is grooved inside it may catch on the shoes (liners). If there is access from the rear (which I doubt) back off the adjustment, if not it may mean damaging the springs and clips to remove. The drum of my washing machine (a Whirlpool AWD 3571) has started to make a loud noise when it turns - both manually when machine empty and during a wash. How can I fix this?

makes a loud noise most when spinning comes from rear bearing either about to let go or has let go but not completely this is a job most technicains love to do because they charge more then the machine is worth to fix it although it is time consuming some can do the job in about 3-4 hrs with properly lubricating and cleaning and reinstalling the new parts you have to consider the hole inside of the machine has to come out and then the wash drum has to be taken apart down to its smallest components and then put back together usually ive seen them charge between 4-650 dollars in my opinion its much cheaper to just go out and treat yourslef to a new washer to assure that it is the rear bearing remove the top cover youll see the drum when you do have some one spin the drum while you listen towards the back of the machine have them spin it by hand by the way if you are hearing the noise when they spin it by hand and its toward the rear then you need a new rear main seal sorry about the bad news if i can answer any further questions please message me back please also remember to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situationThanks again

How to take off rear brake drum

hit it with a hammer in a few spots toward the edge to pop loose, then spin a little as you pull, if there a lip inside the drum and it wont slide off, then you will need to loosen the shoes by turning the brake shoe adjusters in, theres one on each side, you loosen by turning them in from the rear of the backing plate, also if there are spring nuts on drum remove and discard, they look like flat thin washer over the studs to hold drum on,here are to diagrams to help you remove the drum.b4b436c.gif9c62725.gif

Can't get the rear rotors off.

some do have the parking brake inside the rotor drum , make sure the parking brake is fully released, the grab the cable in back of the brake rotor and move it back and forth, then use a 4 lb sledge hammer to hit the face of the drum in a criss cross pattern being careful to not hit it too hard or hit the wheel studs damaging the lug nut studs threads, after this rotate the rotor at the same time as you pull it towards you

Wire Scraping sound and sparks inside rear dryer drum area.

Probably the rear bearing has failed and caused the drum to rub against the heating element. Hey, is this the guy that said he heard a noise last month? LOL

Wixl163 8 months old plasyic lifters have broken off checked other models how often will i have to replace these ive never had a machine that the lifters arent part of the drum

The drum lifters usually come loose or break because of foreign objects inside drum, normally they should last a long time..If you remove one by grasping firmly, and giving it a firm tug towards you, it will come out, and you can feel inside the gap for any thing in the bottom of drum..
To fit back, line the lifter up inside the slot and push firmly towards rear of drum ,if you have got it right, you will feel it click firmly into place, make sure you get it the right way round, and make sure you have the correct one, as there is more than 1 version of lifters.

Please rate my fixya solution.
Thanks.

Noisy when spining

It is possible, but it involves a strip down, which I would not recommend,
the only other way you might retrieve a foriegn object is by removing one of the drum lifters inside the drum.
Grasp one of the lifters and pull it firmly towards you, this should then lift out ,and you can feel around to see if you can locate anyhing.
to replace lifter, insert it into the slots, and push it firmly towards the rear, you should feel it click into place.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.

Hotpoint tumble dryer is making loud scraping noise like the drum is catching against one the panels

This sound is caused by the drum tilting towards the rear panel just above the heating element housing and is due to the drum spindle wearing through the bearing. (Which can lead to it shearing off) after it`s cut it `s way into the bearing support bracket. A new rear bearing kit is needed. it will come with a foam support which is stuck on to the inside of the back panel as the drum rests against this when turning. the foam support on your dryer may have perished or gone flat due to the heat from the element and that is why your hearing the scaping sound. new foam ring from the bearng kit will cure the scraping.

Kenmore 40922 front load

This advice from Sears to replace baffles only applies to dryers. The baffles for the washer are installed from inside the basket. If you can't locate mounting from inside the basket, then the entire basket/tub will have to be removed and disassembled.(big job)... But I am pretty sure they mount from inside. Washer or dryer, there are three screws in the rear along the top. Remove screws, slide top toward rear and lift off.
