Question about Toshiba Satellite (K000004080) Motherboard

Open Question

Hi all. I have a Toshiba Satellite model no. PSAG8U-04001W When I hit the power button I will get the Toshiba screen and then immediately get a non-blinking cursor at which point the computer is completely frozen. If I hit the power button the computer immediately turns off. I can't boot into safe mode and I can't boot from a CD. I've tried removing the hard drive with no change. I've tried removing the RAM and all that does is kill what video although I now have to hold the power button down for several seconds to turn off the computer. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is? Thanks!

SOURCE: Black screen w/blinking cursor

So.. you can select safe mode? Or you turn it on and it is resuming into the blank screen?

If the latter. Unplug the power, pull the battery out for 20 seconds or so. Then put it all back together and try booting up.

SOURCE: Toshiba Satellite Goes completley off! Black screen, NO POWER!

This problem is likely caused by overheating. The CPU reaches a temp to high and shuts the system down. When you try to turn it on the system is still to hot and it will not let the computer power on. You can try blowing out the fans and heat sink with an air compressor or can of compressed air. If this does not help the problem you may need to have thermal compound reapplied. If that does not fix it it will need a new heatsink/fan/

It sounds like the hard drive is dying. I had a computer do the same thing and it turned out to be the hard drive. You should still be able to access the bios though. Try hittind either delete or F1 as soon as your toshiba screen appears.

SOURCE: Tecra M3 won't boot, hdd light comes on then off.

The hard disk can be installed in another computer, but it won't boot up and run unless the computer is the same make and model with the same devices as the previous computer.
If it is not then you need to do a fresh Windows install to get a working computer.
What you can do as an alternative is to install the hard drive in an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive.

I have a Toshiba Satellite model: PSAG8U-04001W, I have no power. I have checked the voltage on the dc side of the ac charger and its fine. there are no status lights and the computer won't turn

This is an obvious board issue if your not getting any lights at all battery blink or HD lights no screen BIOS board is dead, you may want to check to see if power is going from the plug in plastic pin on the board as well the plastic input pin may be solder split or cracked and not connecting.
So the obviously fix for this is take it in to a tech and have them test the board out to see if your getting power to the power button. If your not getting anything showing with even the battery charge indicator and all black out. Board replacement is inevitable, I dislike being the delivery person for the bad news. This does happen...............John

Locked keybroad toshiba satellite C660

Try booting in safe mode and see if the keyboard is locked. Maybe the keyboard is bad.

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn itback on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFEMODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will lookdifferent to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this isnormal.
