Question about Gateway FPD1975W 19" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

After the Windows XP progress bar is done, the monitor goes to a screensaver, its a black screen with a blue block moving around the screen, with some kind of chinese lettering. At this point I can't access the menu or anything..... What should I do?

First, turn the power off on the screen. & unplug the screen from the computer. After it's disconnected turn it on. This is to see if this screen saver thing is the monitor or the pc doing it.
The Monitor, if working correctly will say "No Signal". ONLY.
You should be able to get to the menu here.
If the Screen saver thing is only present when connected to the PC then its not the monitor but more than likely a problem with Windows XP configuration.
Here is your user manual:

If you can set up your monitor now, do so. Make sure the language part of it is set to English settings.

Monitor goes black after 1 round of screensavers

Windows version ? It probably matters. You might have an odd conflict between you computer and the power saving features of the monitor.

There are about three different things that can control power saving. There are settings in the BIOS of some computers that can control part of this behavior. Windows also has power saving features and the monitor may also have its own settings. Some graphics cards also have settings for this. So I think that's four, isn't it?

Biggles! The rack! our three chief aims, fear, surprise and an almost fanatical devotion to John Cleese! and the comfy chair! Four, Our four aims ...

Make sure that you have the latest version of drivers for your graphics card and the video display (and BIOS firmware, if you are a hardy soul)

You want to poke around and find out whether two of these are interacting. The first screensaver starts using one inactivity timer. The second phase or standby mode kicks on a slightly longer timer.

It means that there is no video signal from your video card. 1. Check the video cables 2. Try connecting your internal video card if you have one or change the card with new one.

Try restarting the computer in Safe Mode and then check. In case it flickers in Safe Mode too, then the LCD screen might be damaged and you might need to replace it.

The screen turns black and stays like that

Normally it's because the resolution is set too high for the monitor. This has happened to me when I switch a computer from a flat screen to a old "biggy-size" monitor.

try rebooting the computer and BEFORE you see the windows splash screen, start pushing the F8 key...this should bring up a menu...select VGA Mode...it won't be pretty, but once you're in..right click on the desktop and change the solution (try 800x600). restart the machine...that should work.

Black screen

I had a much older dell laptop (2001?) that did this. For whatever reason it had 5 or 6 drivers loaded for the monitor/display. Of the five, four were identical. I disabled the identical ones and kept the normal one enabled and this solved the problem.

Monitor keeps turning off

my first two ideas are....

1. Power setting/screen saver - this could be build into the monitor or a setting in the power options in the control panel.

2. improper setting for the monitor....this could be the refresh rate most likely.....right-click in a blank area of the desktop, go to properties, settings tab, advanced.....there should be an option in one of the tabs that has an option for refreash rate...make sure it is set to 60.....

If not one of these two things, than it is a faulty monitor......probably not worth getting fixed....hopefully still under warranty??
