This is a fairly classic switchmode power supply problem, I see them often in my shop, the set is shutting down to avoid a fire, explosion, or both. This set had developed a problem, that is so severe that the set must be shut down, This set should be removed from the Power.
It is my professional recommendation, that you should get a "Quote" for repair, from, an, Approved Service Center, this point is very important for a good result, Always contact, their, Akai, in your case, their "Local", or a "Head Office", ask them for a referral to an authorised service center. Now, when, at the repair center, you will be able to get the information you want, regarding the repairs, then you can decide as to repair of replacement. The reason we want an approved agent, is that way, all the engineers are trained on their own brand sets, they have seen almost all faults, and will get the job done quicker, and for less cost, and usually have parts on hand, also sometimes, there has been a service bulletin in issued and the repair may be subsided or even free.

Whenever a PSU shuts Off automatically, well this is due to the "Protection Circuitry" detecting a Fault, that is potentially so severe that, the set needs to be shut down, then, immediately, to avoid a fire, and explosion or both.
Now it is THIS "Cause" that must be found, and repaired, also any damage done by that "Cause" too.
Now irrespective of whatever the Symptom is , one MUST always start at the Power Supply, and make sure this is 100% correct, as if this isn't NOTHING else can ever be. then once one is sure that it is OK, then work out from there to try and find the actual "Fault". Another thing that is a must have if one wishes to DIY is a service manual.
I have looked but there is scant documentation regarding this model.

This is indicative of some major hardware problems in the TV itself. It could be the power board going out, which that blinking usually indicates. If it is still under warranty of extended warranty you are going to want to claim it under that. Otherwise it may be cost prohibitive to repair it, it is unfortunately just easier and probably cheaper / the same price to replace it. If you happened to purchase the TV with a major credit card (not a debit card) there is a good chance it may still be under the free extended warranty most credit cards place on electronics. Please contact your credit card company to inquire if they do this, and they will be able to file the claim and get you a refund for the TV.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. A plasma TV is a very hard working device. It is working harder than any TV that has been built before, and as a result it produces a lot of heat. 75% of technical problems in plasma TV's are caused by overheating problems. You'll need to check the power supply board first for any swollen/bulged capacitors. As power supply board is the hardest working board in a plasma TV, it develops voltage to supply all components, high current + high voltage. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise & know how to solder/re-solder components as these units contain high voltages even when switched off. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Yes, it can either be the power board or the control board.

Mitsubishi WS-65908 will not stay on

Its a color convergence problem from description:

If green light comes on for a few seconds and goes off:

On the front of the set (not the remote) press and hold both the menu and input (device) buttons at the same time for at least 5 seconds and release both.

Watch power light: it will blink a two digit error code, in your case I suspect it will be 2 blinks, 2 blinks and repeat several times.

Let me know error code and I will help.

Screen went black. Shut t.v. off and tried to turn it back on. Power comes on, front light is green, and in about 3 seconds the t.v. shuts off, green light goes off. Was playing dvd at the time. Shut off...

MOST OF THESE SETS HAVE A SELF DIAGNOSTIC:

UNPLUG TV AND THEN PLUG BACK IN---TURN ON---GREEN POWER LIGHT COMES ONFOR A MOMENT AND GOES OFF.

PRESS AND HOLD "device" and "menu"buttons on front of tv for at least 5 seconds and then release both together.

Watch for power light to blink in a sequence:

1 blink-then 2 blinks-------no error

2 blink-then 1 blink-------X-ray protection

2 blink-then 2 blink-------SHORT PROTECTION*******

2 blink-then 3 blink---------deflection circuit problem

2 blink-then 4 blink---------vertical circuit problem

******2, then 2 is most common---usually means one of the fuses that protectthe Convergence IC or IC's is blown---set will detect no voltage to convergenceIC and shut down.

SET WILL REPEAT BLINK ERROR CODE UP TO 5 TIMES ANDTHEN TO GET IT TO REPEAT MORE YOUHAVE TO UNPLUG SET AND TRY TO TURN ON AGAIN.

IF IT IS 2 AND THEN 2---USUALLY
CONVERGENCE CIRCUIT PROBLEM

let me know what you find--hope that you find 2 blinks, a pause and twoblinks--this is the most common and easiest to fix. SD TECH

LED Blinking

Okay 2 blinks isnt a error code, so your set isnt shutting down due to a protection issue, so I would suspect one of the low voltage regulator transistors or the horizontal output transistor as being defective

Will not turn on

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input/device and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source.
