This is possibly caused by your firewall or the wireless security (wpa/wep) on the router if you have set it up.
First of all, if you can connect to the internet via a cabled connection the problem is going to be with the way you've set the router up.
If you've setup wireless security on the router, have you also set it up for your wireless adaptor?.
I suggest you try to connect to the internet via cable to start with, if this works try to connect wirelessly with your firewall off.
If all else fails start from the beginning again.
