Question about Maytag 24 in. MDB8951AWS Stainless Steel Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

Maytag Dishwasher I would like to know the proper water level after DW fills. Older Whirlpool units a quick guide was when water just covered heater. I have a new D/W and the water supply is difficult to access, there is a kink in the water line slowing the water flow. The D/W fills to bottom of heater, but because the unit is so quiet I can't determine if it is timing out or working properly. I intend to repair water line when counter work is done. Thanks for any help Gary

Newer Maytags should fill close or up to the heater not over. Sounds like your alright for now but I would get that water line fixed.

My dishwasher is not enough with water at the start of the cleaning cycle

My new DW had the same problem but when I had a tech come to the house he explained that the DW only uses .8 gallons of water and that what I am seeing is normal. Do your dishes come out clean? My did, so I guess he was right. Good Luck...xo

My dishes are not getting clean anymore! It's extremely frustrating. Also, sometimes my soap doesn't even dissolve! This dishwasher isn't very old, but I am tired of it!

hi, This is a water temp. problem. The first fill s/b about 125-140 degrees. You can try running your hot water tap for several minutes. Run a load, see if there is some improvement. Next, go to your water heater, see where the setting is. On a gas move dial up a notch. On electric remove top and bottom covers and do the same thing. You also need to clean the dw off and on. Take a gallon of white distilled vinegar and pour the whole gallon into the dw after it has started and run for awhile. Then open the door and let sit overnite, starting the next morning. Hope this helps.

Water will not fill the dishwasher, it runs but it will not fill with water...is the water inlet plugged?

Hello there

The most common causes of this problem are a defective water inlet valve or a stuck float switch. The float switch sits under the dish racks and sends a shut-off signal to the dishwasher when the water level is high enough. Make sure you only use a Maytag-compatible replacement if you have to change out your dishwasher's float switch or water inlet valve.
Difficulty: Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need:

  • Owner's manual
  • Screwdriver
  • Scrub brush
  • Replacement parts (if necessary)
hd_clickable2_area.gifGet what you need for every
project at HomeDepot.com
  1. 1 Shut off power to the dishwasher from the home's circuit breaker box. Remove the lower rack from the inside of the dishwasher.
  2. 2 Check the water inlet valve to see if it clogged or broken. Replace the valve if you notice any problems and test the dishwasher again. If it still does not fill, proceed to Step Three to troubleshoot the float switch.
  3. 3 Consult your owner's manual to find the location of the float assembly. Remove the cover, if applicable to your dishwasher. There may be retaining screws holding the cover in place or it may just snap off.
  4. 4 Hold both sides of the float while you raise and lower it several times. The float should move freely without binding or catching on anything. Disconnect and use a scrub brush to clean the float if you feel any resistance.
  5. 5 Reattach the float and test its movement again. If it is still not moving properly, replace the float.
  6. 6 Replace the lower rack of the dishwasher and turn the breaker switch back on.

Du1055xtsd2 whirlpool dishwasher runs but doesn't fill with water doesnt cycle

A few things could be wrong.

It can't cycle without water. be sure you have water at the valve under the dishwasher. You should be able to see it by dropping the front plate under the DW.

If you have water pressure, then check for voltage (120) at the valve with the timer calling for water. ( start of cycle).

If you have voltage and pressure, replace the valve.

If you don't have voltage, it could be the little switch inside the DW. It pulls up and down. The level switch could be bad.

If that doesn't do it, it may be the timer or the door lock interface.

Good luck.

My plumber just installed a new water supply line for my dishwasher. Now the pump comes on but no water fills up in the machine. If I fill the bottom of the unit with water, it works just fine. Even though...

You don't know how many times I've heard and found the shutoff valve off or partly turned off. Water entering DW is from line pressure not pumping. Items to suspect (again) the water supply valve (would'nt be the first time a new valve is bad). The supply valve (3374621) at the Dw, the float safety switch (normally at front left side,)...remove lower rack, lift float housing up and down. You should hear a click both ways and the housing should be free. Is the Dw fill valve getting control signal from timer. Should be 120v for about 60 sec.

The first cycle water is not hot - all other cycles are hot - the water in the sink next to the dishwasher is not???

Where does the dishwasher connect to hot water? If it is connected to cold it must be changed. From your description, the water is coming from a long way off and has to warm the pipes as it travels to the dw. The dw should have a heater to bring the water up to temp after filling before it runs, if this heater is not working, the first run will be cold and the next hot because you have drawn enough water through the pipes to bring hot water to the dw.
1. Change where the dw gets hw.
2. Run hw in the sink before allowing the dw to start (if connected to same line).
3. Fix the dw's water heater.

Three possible fixes. Good luck.

Water leaking onto the floor

1. If the water is going onto the floor during the drain cycle there is either a hole in the hose or it is completely loose from the DW or a hole in the drain assembly under the sink but if that were the case you would have water under the sink also.
2. If it during the wash or rinse cycle then the seals are not sealing (door is not closed all the way or seals are bad) or the float at the right front of the DW is stuck allowing the DW to overfill with water.(you need to open the door and pull the float up and out as you do so push it up and down and listen for a clicking sound.(which indicates it is making contact with the fill solenoid)..if you here the clicking and the float is full of gunk (old soap and such) clean it out and replace it and run it through a cycle and monitor the DW to see if the fill cycle shuts off before the water reaches the overflow point.
3. the only other option is a possible rust through on the DW and or the drain and motor mount in the center of the DW where the food particles and water are drained...is loose and leaking or rusted through...(how old is the DW).
4. Also check to see there are no large particles around the door seal to prevent complete closure and sealing of the door seal. As well as the door latching properly (when closed can the door be moved or pulled open)?

I hope this helps and let me know if not Please relay model number, age and other specifics you feel are pertinent...thank you and please rate me if this helped...thanks again ...the Fang

Dishwasher spray arms don't spin & spray water

Could be a a couple different issues.. Not filling with enough water or food chopper broke or food chopper filter screen clogged.

Check water level:
Run the DW and wait for the main wash to start (water will fill. pause then complete fill) The water should be no more than 1/4 inch below the heating element. If not there..replace water inlet valve.

Inspect food chopper:
1. Remove lower spray arm and rear water supply tube to upper spray arm.
2. Remove torx screws that secure the sump cover.
3. Remove primary filter
4. Remove food chopper cover to expose the chopper assembly. Inspect for breakage or blockage.
