The light next to my Vaio laptop's web cam lens is on but the screen is black. i.e. not capturing me sitting in front of it or anything else. Can't seem to get web cam to capture my image. Please advise.

The issue may occur if the Camera Driver is corrupted, missing or not installed correctly in the Computer.

Please re-install the Camera Driver in the Computer to resolve the issue.

You can view and download the Camera Driver from this link

Please download the SODCAM-01098002-US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory.

Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SODCAM-01098002-US.EXE file to begin the installation.

At the "Sony Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC1 Driver for Microsoft Windows XP" screen, click "Next".

At the "License Agreement" dialog, read the agreement, then, if you agree, click "I Agree" to continue with the installation.

At the "Finish" dialog, click "Finish".

Installing the Sony Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC1 Driver should resolve the issue.

If the issue is not resolved, please try re-installing the VAIO Camera Capture Utility in the Computer.

You can view and download the VAIO Camera Capture Utility from this link

Please click on the "Download now" option on the page to download the file.

Then, please double click the downloaded file to begin the installation.

After installing the VAIO Camera Capture Utiltiy, please restart the Computer for the settings to take the effect.

Re-installing the Camera Driver and Camera Software in the Computer should resolve the issue.

Webcam Not Working on Sony VAIO VGN-FE670G

I use a VGN-FE670G as well although I've never had any trouble with the integrated camera. However, here's where you want to start (assuming Windows XP Media Center Edition with all the updates): Open your Control Panel (Classic View, not Category View); you're looking for the icon titled "Scanners and Cameras." This will expand into a short list -- the top icon being the "Add Device" Wizard. If you're like me and only have the one built-in camera - no scanners or other cameras, you should see it listed next as "Sony Camera VGP-VCC1" -- if you do not see it listed then that is indicative of the problem. If you do get stopped anywhere along the way then skip ahead to where I talk about reinstallation of the camera driver. Hopefully you WILL see it listed, in which case you should RIGHT-click the icon for the Sony Camera and select Properties. The subsequent window will provide an option to test the camera by clicking the button that says... you guessed it... "Test Camera." If a pop-up box is generated indicating a successful test result, you're in business and the camera should obviously be available for use in third-party software (i.e. Yahoo Messenger, AIM, etc.); for still photos, just RIGHT-click the "Sony Camera VGP-VCC1" icon again and this time select "Get pictures." You can also access the snapshot functionality of the camera via your My Computer icon (it will be listed along with the hard drive, DVD, multi-card reader, etc.).

IF YOU DO NOT SEE THE CAMERA LISTED and you're stopped at some point along the way, reinstall the driver for the camera (it appears that the original driver is still current). Here's the link you want to open: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=VGNFE670G ...That's the home page for our particular model of Vaio. BOOKMARK IT or FAVORITIZE IT. Then... left column, first option -- Drivers & Downloads -- click it. Next you'll see all the juicy downloads that are available and the camera driver is right there. I'd spend some time making sure you have current drivers for other devices too -- BUT do this AFTER the camera issue is resolved (at least that's what I would do)... One thing at a time...). When you do go and check out the other downloads, unless you know exactly what you're looking for, just scroll down the list and download the updated version of Vaio Update (I believe it's at the bottom since the list is alphabetized). It's similar to Microsoft Update, although it is not web-based, but it scans your system to determine what you need and then it fetches the necessary files. The app is not a huge resource hog but it does run continuously and periodically checks via Internet for updated yada yada yada from Sony. Let it do all the work and then leave it on there. OPTION: You can disable the auto load-on-startup behavior with msconfig and still initiate manual update checks but unless you're already familiar with this process, don't worry about it and just forget that you read the sentence that you're currently reading...or did have read?... Anyway, bestoluck!
