Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful.

Regards
Andrea

My canon powershot SD880 IS tells me lens error restart camera when i turn it on and i dont know what to do?

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

The problem is that the camera cannot open the front eye, when you turn on the camera it does not come out. and at the end it say lens error, restart camera, but still do the same thing. help cause i want...

Its a common error with cameras with retractable lenses. It could be a grain of sand stuck in the slide parts of the lens. Another cause is accidentally pressing the ON button when the camera is in its case.

The solution is usually "helping" the camera lens to come out. This is a tricky job because it requires putting pressure (by pulling) on sensitive lens parts. If you're not comfortable with that, ask someone else to have a look at it.

I've had one IXUS 860 which could not be recovered from the lens error. The second IXUS 860 had the same error - the lens however moved finally after turning the cap for a bit. In the first case it was sand. In the second had tried to push the lens out while in its case - the ON button was pressed.

I have a camera it's a canon S5 IS i let a friend borrow it he dropped it and now the lens won't go back in it says lens error restart camera i need help

Hi,

Lens error occurred due to external shock, Now lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting.

1) Avoid applying pressure to the lens and surrounding area:
  • Do not touch Lens while shooting.
  • Make sure the camera is off before the camera is placed back in the case.
or..

2) Check batteries and make sure that they have sufficient charge, the batteries may need to be recharged or replaced. follow the instruction to resolve the problem.
  • Remove the battery and wait 30 Seconds & reinsert the battery, if your camera has a backup or date and time battery, remove this battery as well. Removal of the backup battery will cause a full reset of the camera and will clear any settings.

If this will not solve the problem your device need service (repair)

Rating the solution in highly appreciated....Good Luck

Lens error

Most of these errors are caused as a result of some kind of impact or it has been dropped or something else which has caused damage to the lens system.

Since it is not working, try this, but be warned that it could cause more damage to the lens system.
Try to pull on the lens and possibly to push as you start the camera. Try this a few times until it is working or you decide it is not going to work.
If something is broken internally, no help will fix it. It will need repair or sell for parts on a site like Ebay.

Lens error, restart camera

the beeping sounds means that your camera lens is stuck. contact the manufacturer (canon), for a possible solution...or they can even send u a new one. My friend dropped her SD630 and had the same problem...she contacted canon, and sent in her camera to be fixed, but it wasn't fixable, so canon sent her a brand new camera. hope this helps.
