Not printing

I have a new Compaq Presario C700 and I can't get my Lexmark x3470 to print what I send to the printer, yet it copies from the scanner just fine. I have downloaded the latest driver for it and spent the day setting up a writing program and set it to use the Lexmark X3470 printer, still it wont print a simple letter to my son.
