The link is at the below location, but you will have to type in "waste ink" (without quotes). Since Canon links brings up generic pages, I have reproduced their instructions for you below the link. If you choose to take on this procedure yourself (which is against their advice), they will not provide the procedure.

I would also suggest that you see if it makes sense to you that it would be full and require replacement; in other words, have you had substantial use yet? If not, on that same page, you will see an indication that the printer may need repair as well.

Issue: ERROR LCD: WASTE INK NEAR FULL
Solution: Ink absorber replacement options - MP780

Ink Absorber Replacement Options This printer has an ink absorber that takes in ink during the printing and print head cleaning processes. The cleaning process is necessary in order to keep the print head nozzles from becoming clogged. Over the life of the printer, the amount of ink that the ink absorber has absorbed is calculated by the printer. Eventually, after substantial use, the printer will enter an error condition when the ink absorber is nearly full. At this point, printing is still possible. Press the <Stop/Reset> button to cancel the error. You will still be able to print for a short period. To protect the printer from damage, you will not be able to print at all once the ink absorber is full.
Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk.

Waste ink near full. How do I empty this?

the waste ink is the pads in the printer where the printer cleans the carts (ink). When they fill up they need to be replaced i would suggest taking this printer to a printer shop for replacement. The reason is because the printer has a waste counter on it and it needs to be reset before the error will go away. I would call around your area and see if they can do it and how much. If you reset the counter and continue printing the ink will adventually over flow and can cause serious damage to the printer. I would also call up canon and see what they recommend.
Steven.
hope this helps :)

The waste ink absorber is nearly full on a Cannon Pixma MP110 printer - how can I change this without resetting the printer software?

The software won't help, you need a shop to replace the absorber pads and reset the counter thru service mode.

Wast ink

Your MP780 printer has decided you have too much ink from the cleaning cycles in the absorbent pad inside the printer. Go to www.fixyour ownprinter.com and put "MP780 waste ink" into the search function. Follow the leads to find out how to clean the waste ink out and more important to find the code to reset the printer to get rid of the waste ink message.

The printer is indicating "waste ink near full"

Hey,

The waste ink pads should generally be around the cartridge carrier, or below, possibly at the bottom of the printer.

have a look at this page for instructions on how to reset the counter after the waste ink pads have been cleaned or replaced.

Canon Pixma MP780 - Waste Ink Near Full

You might have great diffculty as the waste ink needs to be replaced. First off you would need to get a new one, plus it is not just a matter of replacement, as a whole lot of other things need resetting, including the EEPROM. I have the service manual and it looks complicated in that!

you could reset the printer without changing the wate ink pads but you risk damaging it

What i do is take the pads out wash them and replace them.

the waste ink pads are the pads the cartridge rest on whan itsn in neutral position

Where is the foam pad located so I can clean it?

Your Printer needs servicing

The waste ink pads are the pads that the print head sits on on the right of the printer. You see when the cartridge returs to its neutral position on the right of the printer the pads below it are the ones you are looking for..

You need to replace the pads and reset the printer or it still wont work..

you can also take the pads out , wast then with rubbing alcohol and put the back in the reset the printer..

HERE is the service manual that will give you step by step instructions on how to do this
