Question about HP Photosmart R927 Digital Camera

Camera fell off TV tray; lens bent and won't retract

The electronics on the camera are still working to perfection. Problem is as soon as it's turned on it turns itself off, because the lens (outside lens) is at an angle and won't retract. This was the result of an accident and the camera fell to hardwood floor from a tv tray; I don't think it's bent, actually, just hit at an angle so the outer lens is crooked inside the inner lens.

Note: I already got a newer model, but am wondering if this can be repaired for less than the price of a new camera.

    Hi,

I did the same thing recently, with the same result. I took the camera apart and the lens connects to the body via 3 pins at 120 degrees apart. These

pins move in groves which project the lens in and out when th motor turns the base plate. Once broken, these pins can't be easily repaired and HP don't offer consumer access to their parts so the only option is the HP repair / exchange scheme and this camera is £132 as a replacement.

    Regards,

mine has done the same thing!! i was handing the camera to my daughter and she missed it.. only dropped about 8 inches onto a carpeted area. But now it won't open.. the sound comes on and then shuts itself right back off. the lens never comes back out of shell... i can't even find a camera shop locally that can work on hp's.. very frustrating. anyone have any ideas???

Nikon coolpix s8100 lens error lens won't retract

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them.

Camera will not turn ON. I changed the batteries but still no change.

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

Lens problem, turn camera back off then on message

That usually occurs after the camera has been dropped or dirt is stuck inside the moving parts. I have had this on two cameras; one was filled with dirt, and eventually started working again. If you can try to clean it while it is fully extended and retracted you may be able to get away with a simple fix. Cleaning it in one position may be impossible.

My other camera was dropped into dirt (with a lot of force...fell on it). After trying to clean it with the above method I was able to get it to finally work. The clicking you hear is the zoom mechanism binding on 'something', which is either dirt or a bent or broken part inside. After a few seconds it will shut off to prevent causing further damage.

The lens want close due to being bent

The lens has probably got something in the retraction mechanism that is stopping it retracting. This can be something as simple as sand or grit or as a result of a drop or knock. In most cases the camera will need to be stripped apart to remove the lens assy before it can be repaired. This is best left to a professional camera repair shop.

Leica C1 -- Unusable, electronics haywired

hi,
your camera needs cleaning of lens and lens shutter; because some time dust particles gose inside and effect the alignment of lens and cause camera not working.

please give me good rating if the solution works
Thanks for using FixYa.

Camera dropped, lens won't retract or expand

Sounds like the lens got bent out of alignment. Call Canon at 1-800-828-4040. They are really good with their support with or without warranty. You can send it in for repair or ask for the Canon loyalty Program. You trade in your broken camera and they'll give you a newer model for an incredible price.

Bent lens

From what you describe it doesn't sound good. But here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for about 50% of lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty they're worth a try:
