Try to power off the device, if it does not turn off normally, then you will have to press and hold the power button till it responds. If it still does not responds, then you have to remove the battery and insert it back in then power it on. That should solve the problem for you. Take note that once you power it off, you will have to allow it rest for a while before you turn it back on so the unit will rest for a while and work effectively when turned on.
Hope this information was helpful. Thank you for using fixya.
Check the version of GPS SW. (Main Menu / Setup / System / menu button) If is says 0.0 then go to Garmin web site and get the chipset software to reload in your unit.Try it again the same procedure. This chipset software works mostly on all Garmin units. But if in any case if its not supporting then its a internal memory problem. If there is any external memory card connected to your Garmin unit then remove that external memory card and retry.-----------------By any chance, when you turned the gps on did you press the power button multiple times? (Once to power on and quickly press again to turn on the back light?)This helps.---------If still nothing is helping then it has to be sent to Garmin service center for memory resetting.--------Thanks.Helpmech.
When I try to turn it on it comes up with the “rino” initialization screen and buzzes/vibrates at 5 second intervals. It never goes past this screen.Occasionally, for about 1 second a small white bar will appear across the bottom saying “0%.I’ve recharged the Li battery and got the same result.I’ve tried it while connected to the charger.Same result.I’ve tried using the optional 4 AA battery pack with fresh alkaline batteries.Same result.Did the factory reboot (page/enter/power buttons). Same – except instead of a buzz/vibrate I get the tone every 5 seconds. Have to remove battery to turn off.
Contacted Garmin tech support today (10/22) - hope to hear from them soon.
This is normal! The compass looks like this in "course pointer" mode.
When you're looking at the described compass screen, press the lower left button and notice the line "bearing pointer". When you select that line and push the front joystick, you'll notice that the compass needle is "normal" again . And when you push the lower left button again, you'll see that the line has changed into "course pointer". Pushing the joystick again toggles between those two modes. The shifted needle indicates how far you drifted from the course that your route follows. See page 31 of the English manual for details.
