You will want to connect to your router configuration page through your web browser. Most people say that connecting it with a wire to your computer is necessary, but if you can't do that, connect wirelessly and go to http://192.168.1.1 If that doesn't work, try http://192.168.0.1
The username and password should both be "admin" without quotes, or the username should be blank with the password "admin". From there you can set a password from the appropriate config page and be on your way to happy-routerland!

I need the wep

you can find this out by connecting to your linksys router with a cat 5 cable.
in your browser such as internet explorer or firefox type
192.168.1.1
login with your login/pass that you assigned to it.
go to the wireless tab and go to security
it will show the the WEP key that is needed in order for your laptop or wireless devices to connect.
BTW I would recommended using WPA as WEP is not secured.

Set security pass code

After connecting modem(1) to router (2) connect your computer (3).
(4) Power on your modem, wait for modem to cycle(approx 2 minutes)
(5) Power on your router.
(6) Insert your CD - Click Router Setup & follow steps to setup secure wireless network...
NO CD DRIVE INSTALLATION
IN YOUR BROWSER ADDRESS FIELD:
http://www.routerlogin.net & click ENTER

1. Enter the router User Name admin & default password password to open your router's main settings page.
2. Main settings page, you'll be asked if you want to "Check for Update". Click Cancel. ( you can always check for new firmware after you're connected to internet)
3 Choose first menu item on left; Setup Wizard & make sure YES is selected
click NEXT, follow prompts complete setup.
SET UP WIRELESS SECURITY
  • 1. From main page choose Wireless settings
  • 2. Name your network- something easy to remember (Hint* People see it when you are up & running, write it down as well!) {The default name is NETGEAR}
  • 3. Select your security method. NETGEAR recommends: WPA-PSK(TKIP +WPA2-PSK (AES).
  • THEN, enter a Pass-phrase {Write down also, you will get e-mail confirming registration etc... But, BSTS.
  • NOTE: Both your Network Name (SSID) & Pass phrase are case sensitive. Network name, Security method & Pass phrase must all be the same on all the wireless devices connected to your router.
  • 4. Click APPLY & close your browser.
Depending on your cable/internet provider- if these instructions don't do it,
one of their agents should be kind enough to assist?
I was lucky enough to have them do it with me over the phone, after I had surgery & got sick of looking of the thing in the box in my floor!
Good Luck!

I for got my pass words on my wireless router. what do i do to get my wii to work on it?

You will have to reset your wireless router and have it set up again. Hold down the reset button to hard reset all the settings on it. Once this is done it will default back to NO SECURITY needed to log on. You can then first test the Wii for connection with the router. Then set up security again on the router and update the information on the Wii to finish it up.

P.S. if you don't know how to set up the router I recommend calling them directly is a lot faster and they can walk you through the process 5-15minutes tops on the phone.

Bridge router

1. Use both the Modem and the router as NAT routers. Do this by making your router a DMZ node on your modem, that way ALL traffic will pass to the router, then set up port forwarding etc on the router.

2. Run the router/modem in bridge mode (recommended). You need to set the modem to run in bridge mode, check the user manual for refrences to bridging. Then set the router to connect to PPPoE using a username and password.

I have a wireless Netgear router. Everyone around

depending on your type of netgear router, the way you enter the setup is different. I use a netgear router and th emeens of access is to type in your web browser http://routerlogin.com/start.htm

Your internet provider does not have anything to do with your local security settings.

you will need to go to the wireless settings link to choose a security type. I recommend you to use at minimum WPA-PSK(TKIP) You will then choose a pass phrase of 8 characters. This will stop the unauthorized access.
You will be asked for the pass phrase when connecting to your network.
If you need any other help, please just reply.

Airport card only works in same room as router

Do you have a cordless phone in the apartment?
how many rooms do you have and in which room is the signal low? What router do you have?

Intermittent Connectivity:
NOTE: Before following the steps in this article, check if your wireless computers have stable connection when connected to other wireless networks (hotspots).
This article assumes that all wireless computers are experiencing intermittent wireless connection with the router.
Frequent wireless disconnection can be caused by different factors such as:

  1. Wireless interference within the network.
  2. Wireless settings of the router are still set to default.
  3. Firmware is corrupted.
Reducing Wireless Interference
If you are experiencing frequent disconnection from the wireless network, it helps if you check the following factors, all of which can greatly affect your wireless signals:
your cordless telephone system (or even your neighbors’), or other nearby equipment. Try to change your router’s channel to 1 or 11 (the default channel is 6) and restart the wireless computers.
Physical obstructions: Your router or wireless computers may be losing connectivity because of physical obstacles such as walls and floors. Try to move the equipment to different locations to find a better link.

  • Placement of the router:
  • Router mfg'ssuggests that you place your router as high off the ground as possible. When placing the router in a high location, leave a distance of two feet between the router antenna tips, ceiling, and wall. If your signal passes through multiple floors, place the router on the upper-most floor, and high up in the room.
  • Surroundings: Keep the router away from large metal objects, bodies of water (fish tanks, bathrooms), and any electrical equipment including television sets, microwaves, radios, etc.
Customizing Wireless Settings of the Router
Having default wireless settings on the router may cause conflict with other routers within your network range. change the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Need to get a wireless password

If you have a router without a password, users connected to the router can change your settings. I recommend enabling WPA security with a pass phrase and a password on the router. You might consider changing the name of the admin account to something else too.
