You might need to set the ISO to a higher number.

All nite time pics are blacked out what can I do to fix it.

If the day time pictures are good then the setttings for the night shots must be selected according to the light intensity. Please check on the menu for night settings if you are intenting a low light shoot. Also make sure that the flash is active, in most of the present day samml cameras, the flash THROW is low and so the SUBJECT must not be too far as the picture will appear dark. So when using flash in a dark scene have the subject within 5-7 feet as the small flash will not be able to capture the openess. Also you can use a SLAVE flash to counter this and give a better prospective.

Try Shutter Priority mode (Tv). Adjust the shutter time for an extended shot of several seconds or more. Of course, recommend using a tripod to do this, and using the camera's timer to take the shot to minimize camera shake.

Completely dark photo, only showing top 1/4 of pic, remaining 3/4 is dark, this only happened after I cleaned the mirror, which has been done many times before and had no problems in doing so, please

Hi there,
there is no problem with your cam for sure. you must have changed the setting of the cam adjust the shutterspeed and the aparture. and your problem will be solved... or dont keep the cam on manual mode.. keep it on automatic settings and it should work. also check out this link to learn more about how to use aparture and shutterspeed..... http://www.learnslr.com/slr-beginner-guide/digital-slr-learning-guide/av-mode-aperture-priority

I get a warning which says *Battery Exhausted*. I've replaced them but still get the warning.. Any idea whats wrong?

earlier i posted solution in similary problem. maybe help you this.

solution is good batteries, Ni-Mh or Lithium, rechargeable only not alkaline. but...problem is how long you watch pictures on lcd display or how much is flash in use. if always by shooting pics used flash that means that you can with best batteries 30, 20 or less pics shooted. and of course, if you connect camera with pc, how long is cam on? just transfer pics on pc and turn the camera off. the best solution is use the card reader for pics transfering.
if is flash off, it's possible to shot 120-150 pics with Ni-Mh. with lithium i don't know, maybe 500 pics. don't use camera lcd for analysing pics it's just there for short preview.
with alkaline batt., very low quality, i shot 30 pics without flash.

i shot also very good pics at night without flash. nikon coolpix L15 can do that but you must have more praxis. alkaline batteries shooting!
after 3 pictures on display is message: warning! the battery is exhausted. what you can do? turn the camera off. wait about 10 minutes. turn the camera on, you can shot 3 or 5 pictures and than turn your camera off again.
you can repeat this few times and you be lucky if you 30 pics captured:)
REMEMBER: all this goes without camera flash!!!
flash and every zooming use more battery power! and that was all magic:).

What are the normal settings for night shots on oly C3030Z. Shall I use flash when I shot on nights? If I set the aperture on F2.8 and the shutter from 2 to 16 sec. I got a lot of pixels on the...

There are ways to deal with this problem. As others have said, your camera appears to be normal. Consider using "dark frame subtraction" to successfully employ long shutter speeds. The technique involves capturing two images using the same exposure time and the same camera temperature. One of the images is your picture. The other (the "dark image") is captured with the lens cap on, or other suitable way to block all light. Then using one of the more sophisticated photo editing applications, "subtract" the "dark image" from your picture. This technique will dramatically reduce the noise, because moist of the noise is deterministic, but is highly dependent on shutter speed and on CCD temperature. Of course you can use flash at night, but only for subjects that are close enough to the camera - not for a subject such as your stjernehimmel 2 photo
