Question about Iomega ULTRAMAX 1TB TRIPLE INTERFACE FireWire 400 (1394a) Hard Drive

1 Answer

When I switch the drive on it 'ticks' but won't properly turn on for a long time — up to an hour. As I write this the drive has been ticking for over two hours and has still not booted up.

The clicking noise is the reader arm jumping across platters on your hard drive you have a dirty hard drive first clean all the dust from your computer specifically from around your hard drive using a high powered suction vacuum cleaner or a fine air blower from a air compressor making sure there is no moisture in the air lines then give the hard drive a firm tap on the side to free it up
replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive

hope this helps good luck

if you payed cash for it take it back and see if someone there remembers the transaction if you paid using a card the agency will have a copy the only other thing give this hard drive a firmer tap on the side or drop it onto its back from 3-4feet onto a rug/carpet to free the reader arm a sharp thud/bang should free it up then test all leads that attach to the hard drive one faulty lead can cause problems booting up once you can access your hard drive go to administrive tools computer management, disk management you will see this drive in the top left hand corner right click, properties tools there will be 2 boxes automatically fix system errors scan for attempted ..........tick in both then restart
hope this helps and good luck

Simpletech 250 GB External Harddrive won't backup 180GB . Says it is full.

click start control panel administrative tools computer management disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes

automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now start

you might tick one box then return after its finished the first repair then return and tick the second box you should not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage this drive

I found that you get best results by ticking one box then returning after it has finished then tick the other box

then you restore it to its default status

Right click on usb drive select properties you will have an array of options

Select the hardware option then select your drive properties policies

restore defaults

In XP

Right click on your drive select properties then on customize restore Default in W 7

hope this helps

2003 ford ranger ticking noise when truck is off

It is usually the heat shield on the exhaust system. When you drive your truck, the catalytic converter heats up to about 1000 degrees in order to work properly. The car manufacturers put heat shields over the converter to prevent grass from catching fire, because the shield is thinner and it cools faster. As it cools, it ticks and pops for at least an hour after you stop the engine.

The other option is there is a time bomb counting down....lol.

My hard disk turn off every 1 hour then it make a unusal sound nd wont restart again . Then again next day its start and after 1 hour it gets hang nd start making tick tick noise ... does m hard disk...

Go to the power settings and set it to never turn off hard drive...the tick tick noise are the read and write heads working (that's what writes information on the hard drive) which is perfectly normal with an older hard drive....the hang is probably a virus or needs a good cleaning...I recommend advanced system care as a program to clean your hard drive and fix the errors....uninstall any and all programs not needed or unused

I have a WD1600. When I turn the computer on, I hear a ticking noise from the hard drive. It ticks 10 times and pauses, and again until I get a hard drive failure on my screen.

The ticking is the reading head trying to read the data. Since it fails that means that the hard disk has died. This is unfixable and all the data on it is lost. Just take it out and replace it.

I would think it would be your flasher switch. The one under your dash that makes the ticking sound. Just unplug it and replace it.

When burner is turned on, the "ticking" noise never stops!!!

You got water/liquid in the control switch, most the time you have to replace the switch, and most cook tops require the whole string of them be changed at once. That is all the switches are tied into /pre wired together.
