First, be sure you did not change one of the dip switches in the hand held unit while changing batteries. You would have to see if the switches in the hand held unit match the switch positions in the fan receiver.
This is one of the many sites you can go to for remotes:

Hampton Bay fans are sold exclusively by Home Depot. I would check on line or stop by one of their stores to see if you can pick up a HB remote. Once you get a new remote you have to again make sure the dip switches are in the same position. Paul

SOURCE: Receiver on Hampton bay the

Hi,

First you need to check the housing mounted to the ceiling as the transmitter is there. Next you have to try and match it to a new remote or look for some number on the transmitter. However you can usually buy a new remote and transmitter for 30 bucks and just swap out the transmitter. This will be helpful in case you cannot match the numbers. They come labelled and r pretty easy to install. Please accept the solution if it's helpful. Do get back to us for any further query.

SOURCE: Reinstalling a hampton bay ceiling

The black and blue wire should conncect to the black wire in the electric box and the white wire should connect to the white wire in the box. This assumes the wiring was correctly installed.
