Question about Samsung HCM4215W 42" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Here it is 2010 and still with the Samsung convergence problem. I have a Samsung HCM4215. Convergence problem, however in the service mode it can be forced into a pretty good alignment. I was just about to order a new conv board when the sound quit. You can get sound from the output jacks in the back if it's run through an amp but no TV sound. The convergence board is about as much as I would want to spend. Any ideas about the audio? If this gets too expensive it's going to find it's way to the tree lawn on trash day where I should have put it 30 days after I bought it.

    I should have mentioned the convergence problem is evidenced by the typical colors out of whack and the bowtie effect.

Yup, "where I should have put it 30 days after I bought it" (sic) isn't it amazing how we know what to do but don't ..lol.

Hi, look I have been doing for a considerable time and see TV sets like this in my shop on a daily basis.
Rear projection TV's are just a problem waiting to happen, also they are difficult to set up, difficult to repair, and expensive in every respect.
It is my professional advise that you put any monies that you would have spent on repair, towards a new TV set, with a warranty.
Samsung is an OK,brand, but hardly what you would call the "Rolls Royce"of TV's so, in reality, it is NOT economically worth repairing, even if you can get the correct parts etc.
Also the problem is most likely to do with, your power supply, the Final audio output, as well as your convergence problems.
as an aside here, instead of throwing it out, on the front lawn, why not sell the Good parts, so others can fix their sets? That way you can help some people, and make some money towards your new set.

"Perfect Focus" problem on Samsung HCN4727W

You have a bad sensor, a bad digital convergence board, or the new board is not working correctly. I would start by swaping out the convergence board or exchange it for another one. Good Luck

Rear Projection Samsung w/ convergence out

I believe it is mute-1-8-3 to enter the service mode, HOWEVER, I have also read that until the convergence problem is repaired, i.e. - depending on the configuration, either 2 individual IC's located on the lower board with 'playing card' size heat sinks or a simple replacmenet convergence board, adjusting the convergence through the service mode is comparable to "ripping the transmission out of your car to fix a flat tire". I myself have not gone into the service mode since I am still waiting for the replacement IC's - I get to do a component level repair.

My samsung projection tv #pcl5415r don't want to perform perfect focus adjustments

perfect focus functions are based on service mode setup...or factory settings. if the alignment of these setting are loss then the unit wont perfect focus. does the unit have a complete loss of convergence. a complete loss of convergence indicate possible failure of convergence amps.

Convergence settings

Key Functions
7,8,9 = select R, G or B
+100,0,PRE-CH = mute R, G or B
INFO = test/normal
4 = shifts from point to line, grid move
2 = restore factory
SOURCE = H/V select
ADD/DEL = Save
S.MODE = exit
MUTE = cursor forward
P.MODE = cursor back
Volume +/- = moves convergence left or right
Channel +/- = moves convergence up or down
1 = zero's all convergence settings (ugly!)
U/D/L/R = move cursor
SELF FOCUS = saves the convergence adjustment - do before exiting

Good luck.  I let a sub-standard service joint work on mine - they replaced the OEM chips with a higher wattage equivalent, and I've had nothing but problems ever since.
