Charging problem

Check that your alternator is actually charging the battery. With volt meter and car running check for at least 13.5 volts at battery. If not check fuses, big red wire from alternator to battery and for actual output of alternator at bolt where big red wire attaches to alternator. Should have battery voltage with car not running and at least 13.5 when engine is idling(motor running)

What happens when the runs down the battery

if the battery runs down you have to charge then test the battery. then check the charging system to find out what caused the battery to run down.

Said alternator was bad

Bad alternator means no battery charge. Run the battery down without a charging means no power and engine will die. Charge the battery and put a meter on it to see if it goes to 14 volts with engine running. If stays under 13 volts with engine running, replace the alternator.

Charging battery compaq presario c700

If you can reach inside the computer and rub the battery contacts gently to remove the corrosion ,which is invisible , this will help greatly. Sometimes even a new battery will suffer the same. Clean the battery contacts also turn off the laptop and charge it fully do this on a regular basis. Say once every 2 months

Battery runs down when it's parked, any idea?

Hi!!

Batteries over time loose capacity to hold charge. You can jump start the vehicle in the morning and run around all day, but the next morning it won't have enough charge to start up.

Take vehicle to an AutoZone to have charging system and battery checked up at no charge. There are other autopart stores that also offer this free service to their customers..

In most cases when a battery fails to take or hold a charge it usually means the battery has "lost" cells and the battery is no longer viable. Running a lithium ion battery down to very low and then charging it back up is very bad on these laptop batteries. These batteries do not get a "memory" like in the old days, these you can leave on the charger all day and it won't hurt them....but running them down and then charging them up will shorten thier life expectancy.

Hi, i think the battery has completely run down, i suggest you get another battery and ensure you don't allow the new battery to completely run down before yo charge.

As`soon as it shows low battery, you try charge or shut down to save and give your battery long life span.

My run down UPS is not charging when i switch the main power off and take all load off.A red light only bip after few minute charge and it goes off.Should i put it off when charging?what should i do now?

Replace the battery.
You can find them at Batteries Plus for about $30 US

Even if the battery is new, if it is not charged properly it can run down pretty fast. To reset the battery I recommend running the battery all the way down - charging the battery all the way back up to full - and then repeat. Also, make sure you do not charge the battery after it is full. Most phones or charge units have signals to tell you when the battery is fully charged. Do not charge the battery overnight.
These are the best ways to protect the life of a battery.

HI there,

When a laptop/netbook will run on the A/C Adapter but the battery won't charge, there are only 3 things that can be wrong.

1. The battery is dead (replace the battery)
2. The A/C adapter's charging system is not functioning but the power function is. (replace the A/C adapter)
3. The DC power jack which is where the adapter plugs into the laptop is partially failing, providing power but no charging. (replace the DC jack)

Try to find a friend with an adapter/charger that fits your netbook and see what happens with that first. If that doesn't work, try to find someone whose Netbook takes the same battery and test if yours will charge in their laptop. After that, if your battery's not dead and you have a working charger, it's the DC jack and that costs about 80 to 100 to be replaced. They have to take apart the netbook, remove the jack and solder on a new one.
