Question about Panasonic DMR-ES35VS

1 Answer

I tried to copy a VHS tape to DVD-R (Panasonic brand) and encountered a disc read error. The unit wanted to do a self check which I did but it didn't help. So I tried another disc (Panasonic brand) but that wouldn't work either. So then I put a commercial DVD movie in that I knew had worked 30 minutes earlier and that wouldn't work either. So now, this unit will not play any DVDs. It can't read them. I tried unplugging the unit but it still has the same problem.

Perhaps you got dust in on the lens. Try blowing it out with compressed gas, and then try it again.

I've had this unit ewr20v4 for about 5 years, never tried to copy from vhs to dvd until now. I get error message, unable to copy to this disk. called CS they offered an upgrade disc but will charge me...

You have a VHS that uses copy protection. Your unit is designed for copying self-authored DVDs, like you make from iMovie or another app, to VHS. It won't work with commercial VHS tapes with copy protection. The upgrade is probably a decoder circuit, and may be worth it if you plan to use your unit this way often.

How to record a VHS tape to a DVD disc

Read your manual first to make sure the unit will do this.If it does chances are it won't record unless it has a decoder built in.Most VHS tapes have macrovision protection that prevents you from copying them.It will however, record homemade VHS tapes. There are decoders out there you can buy to enable you to copy VHS tapes.

Can not read disc

I mainly use my DVR to record TV shows on DVD-RAM discs (Panasonic brand or Maxell). I've had no problems with the DVD-RAM discs. However, today when I put a DVD-R disc in the recorder, I got an "Incompatible Disc" error message. I tried a second disc from the same set, and got the same message. I tried out some of the DVD-Rs that I recorded last year and I could read them. Tried a DVD-RAM. That was OK. So, I tried another DVD-R disc. That one is OK. I don't know if the problem is that these DVD-Rs are getting a little old (2 years??) or if the recorder is developing its own problems reading discs.

Recording from vhs to dvd

Direct copy VCR to DVD:
- Insert VHS tape you want to copy
- Insert a recordable DVD disc
- Press DVD copy button on front panel or remote control (to DVD).
- To stop recording press the stop button.

IMPORTANT: If attempting to copy copyrighted material the Samsung DVD-VR320 will detect the encoding and will not allow the copy to be made.

Sylvania SRDV495 DVD-VHS

I have the same unit, a SRDv495 and have also been having
a bad time getting dvd's that will work in my machine. I also
bought mine from Sears. I have found one that works every
time and that is a MAXWELL DVD-RW. The trick I think is
the speed of the DVD, so you need to use the ones that have
Up to Max 2X, 4.7 GBgo, 2 Hrs. I find these work every time.
Hope this helps.
