Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful.

Regards
Andrea

Error 30

The "E30" error code is displayed when reading/writing data on a storage card has failed. Especially, the error code "E30" may appears when you tried to remove a storage card while the camera was processing data. Solution To clear the "E30" error, try performing the following procedure. 1. Try using another storage card. If you have another storage card, try loading it in the camera. If the error code is not displayed when the other CF card is loaded, there may be something wrong with the first one rather than with the camera. 2. Use your computer's ScanDisk utility to check the storage card for errors. Use ScanDisk to check the storage card for card error or card failure. Refer to the instruction manual for your operating system or Windows Help for further instructions. (If you are using a Macintosh, use the "Disk First Aid" program to check for card error or card failure. Refer to the instruction manual for your Macintosh OS for further information.) Be sure to back up the data on the storage card on the computer before you check the CF card. If a card error or card failure occurs when you use your computer's ScanDisk, there is something wrong with the storage card. Follow ScanDisk's on-screen instructions to solve the problem. 3. Format the storage card with your camera Try to format the storage card with your camera. Please refer to the "Camera User Guide" for your camera for instructions on formatting CF cards. Also, please note that formatting a storage card will erase all data on the card. Once the storage card is formatted, follow the procedure described in step 2 above and use your computer's ScanDisk on your computer to check the CF card for errors. If a card error or card failure occurs when you are using computer's ScanDisk, there is something wrong with the storage card. If turning the camera off and then on again, and then performing steps 1 to 3 above fails to clear the error, a camera malfunction may have occurred. Please contact the retail store where you purchased the camera or the nearest Canon service center. If the error code is displayed right after you took a picture, the image may not have been recorded. Switch the camera to playback mode to check if it was recorded. Precautions for handling a storage card: - Do not remove a storage card or turn the camera off while the camera is recording, loading, or erasing data on a storage card. - storage cards are high-precision electronic devices. Do not bend, force, or subject them to shocks or vibration. - Do not attempt to disassemble or alter a storage card. - Place the storage card in the supplied case for storage. - Moving a storage card rapidly between temperature extremes may cause condensation in the card, leading to potential malfunctions. To avoid condensation, place the storage card in a sealed plastic bag before moving it into a different temperature area and allow it to adjust slowly to the new temperature. If condens
