GE SmartWater Filter - Model MWF

I just replaced the filter in my GE Profile friday with a MWF SmartWaterWilter. How, when I attempt to access water from the fridge door there is a total lack of water pressure (it just dribbles out). Any ideas on how to get the water pressure back up to normal pressure?

Note - I've replaced the filter several times over the last 4 years and I've never had this problem before. The water line into the fridge is ok too as I've checked that.

WE bought the GE profile french door Nov of 2007. The first filter lasted about 6 mo. After replacing it , after about 2 weeks it produced a very low waterflow-almost a dribble and when trying to fill anything more than 1 to 2 cups the flow woud just stop. GE sent me another filter-lasted maybe a month. The repair man came couldn't figure it out-put another filter in , and that one lasted about a month. When I take out the filter and put the bypass plug in the water flow is what it should be. At a minimum of $30 a pop this isn't cutting it. They are supposed to last 6 mo!! Anyone else hav this issue?

    Thanks Terri

I have the same problems. I have changed the filters several times. Once filter is changed, pressure will return for a couple of weeks then starts dwindling away until it completely stops. Also affecting my ice maker. It is like the water is not getting through. I also have an outside filtration system on our well. That still do not stop the filters from clogging up quickly.

Yup. Same issue here. Mine lasts about 2 - 3 weeks and then starts dribbling out. Ticks me off. Fridge is about 3 years old now.

Same issue here. Fridge is about 3 years old now. It used work just fine, but the last 2 filters have only lasted about 2-4 weeks before losing water pressure and dribbling out. Drives me crazy.

Make sure filter is installed correctly (not to doubt you but it can happen) make sure there isn't some foriegn object or packing materialetc in the filter end. You could have a bad filter. also make sure the unit is purged well

What is the number for a replacememt water filter?

Your GE frig water and ice filter does not have a number, MWF is the type of filter that fits your refrigerator. There is also a MWFP filter that traps even more particulates (pharmaceuticals) but the MWF works just fine. About $35 at Home Depot where they sell appliances.

In replacing a GE SmartWater filter on my GE profile side by side refridge the water will not flow thru new filter, why??

first thing is to make sure it's installed in proper direction. Those have arrows or other marks to indicate inflow/outflow. Please check that first.

GE SmartWater MWF Refrigerator Filter is making noise when dispensing water

The filter body for the unit is poorly designed and can only stand maybe 8 filter changes before it starts failing to open fully with the new cartridge. As far as I can tell the only solution is to replace the filter body.

Ice maker doesn't fill all the time on a GE side by side model TFX22ZRSM

I bought a brand new smartwater replacement filter and after a very short time, my water stopped coming through the door.. took out the new replacement filter and inserted a brand new one .. problem solved.. apparently some of the g.e. smartwater filter replacement cartridges don't have the high enough two plastic inserts which are attached to them at the top of the filter when you screw them on... if you have taken your cartridge in and out a few times, i think it wears down the plastic so it doesn't fit properly and won't put up whatever it is supposed to push up to make the water come through.. I personally think this is a g.e. problem with the replacement filters... this might be part of your problem.....
