Question about Haier MWG10051TSS Microwave Oven

2 Answers

No power to microwave. I replaced the main fuse. it sparked and blew the new fuse. My meter shows a short (or at least continuity) from the appliance side of the fuse (removed) to the neutral (white) wire where the appliance wires are tied to the power cord. Is this worth fixing or just replacing?

Look for the surge protector being short which is in the front end after the fuse. If so disconnect and check for the shorrt to change. repeat the same for the power supply to show a release of the short.
If the transformer, main capacitor is shorrt removve and check or replace.
Since the short is in the primary end you can get this sorted out easily as a short in the magnetron might not be worth.
So use the continutiy meter to disable one by one these compenents to confirm.

Leaving the unit on with nothing inside probably was the cause of the current failure. What happens is RF reverse flows into the magetron and causes the power diode on the capacitor to fail or the capacitor itself fails. Other times they just QUIT WORKING. This is not a difficult or expensive repair. IF by chance you attempt self repair make sure the unit is unplugged and that you ground the capacitor 3 times before proceeding with any testing.

You disconnect one end of the diode and read across the terminals. One direction it will read like a wire and the other it will read open. (Good) If it reads continuity in both directions it has failed. If it reads open in both directions it has failed.

Checking the capacitor you simply probe across the terminals with a meter on R X 1,000 or 10,000 watching for a jump on the meter EACH time the tests leads are REVERSED. No Jump leads reversed = bad capacitor.

There is a very remote possibility that the Magnetron has failed but that is usually preceeded by a loud buzzing and then the fuse blows. I really think you have an 80% chance of the problem being either the Capacitor or the Diode.

. You can get a replacement diode or capacitor from any appliance parts source. They are NOT brand specific. Just take your old part with you if you find one of them defective and get a matching alternative. Capacitor physical size (not capacity) is the issue most of the time due to the mounting of that Cap.

GE Advantium 120 SCA1000DWW03 blowing 20amp fuse

Our unit was doing the same thing,
took it into the repair shop, they said there was nothing wrong with the unit, replace the main breaker that supplies power to microwave and try again.
Sure enough the breaker became defective, and we never had issues with it before, but now the unit has not had a single problem.

My microwave shows nothing on display and will not turn on

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
First check is the main fuse of the unit. On countertop units, you will need to take the shell off. The fuse will be close to where the cord comes through into the unit. OTR units, this main fuse is usually behind the control panel or possibly behind the vent. Usually the fuse is obvious if blown, otherwise test with an OHM meter, if open, replace fuse.
Some brands will also have a thermal cut-off fuse in the incoming voltage line to the control board. Older Maytags and Samsungs have this fuse in it. This thermostat looking fuse is usually above the oven cavity somewhere under the outside shell. Sometimes you can get to it through the vent of OTR models. Test with an OHM meter, replace if open.

Stopped working like it blew a fuse

Dead appliance, power on wall outlet.

YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT!

Attempt this only if you are competent.

If your appliance has absolutely no functions at all, remove it from the mains supply, remove the case and see where the mains lead goes in to the appliance and follow the cable until you find the main fuse.
ONLY USE THE SAME TYPE AND RATING OF FUSE TO REPLACE IT.
The usual cause of this fuse failure is the door switches are contaminated or sticking. Check the door switches before putting power back on to the appliance.
Hope this helps.

Proper heating problem

It sounds like the magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.

YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT

This is a job for a professional but if you are safety clued up, here's instruction.
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 or moving coil meter on high resistance range for short circuit, (DVM's won't show the fault!), the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.

I would say the lamp popped and took the fuse, so you will need to replace the lamp also.

Microwave doesn't work after house fuse blew

Check the fuse inside the microwave. Unplug the power, remove the case screws on the back of the main case and slide the case toward the back. Remove the outer case and look for a fuse that looks simular to an old automotive fuse, usually near or just above the control panel. Check the fuse to see if it is good, if not replace with the same and reassemble reversing method used to access the fuse. Note: automotive fuses will not work. A replacement will be available at The Shack or a local appliance parts store.

Blows main fuse 20A,250V when press start microwave.

First things first, check the big cigarette can type capacitor. OHm it out should not be shorted, meaning reads zero ohms. use ohm meter, set to ohms, put leads across 2 terminals (after your short them with a screwdriver)should not read zero..

next replace magnetron, it's easy, call appliance repair for price if it makes sense and your a gambler replace it.
