Hey well the cartridge could be faulty,,is it a genuine hp,,Those generic ones u can sometimes find arent that good,,but check the hp website for solutions,,there very helpful,,thats why hp is my favorite computer manufacturer,,goodluck
Remove the cartridge and check to make sure it is the correct one for that model. If it is, clean the contacts on the cartridge to make sure they are free from obstruction like ink on the contacts - these are NOT the jets (be careful). Use a clean q-tip to remove the obstruction. Make sure when the cartridge is inserted back into the printer that you get a good connection - they should lock into place.
I replaced both cartriges bought at cartrige world. Screen on printer says: "Cartridge Error". I reinstalled both cartridges and still get "cartridge error". I don't have a owners manual, Help!
Good Day Sir, hope this will help you. print cartridge troubleshooting for hp officejet 4315 : 1. Remove the black print cartridge from the slot on the right. Do not touch the ink nozzles or the copper-colored contacts. check for possible damage to the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. 2. Reinsert the print cartridge by sliding it forward into the slot. Then push the print cartridge forward until it clicks into the socket. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the tri-color print cartridge on the left side. 4. If the problem persists, print a self-test report to determine if there is a problem with the print cartridges. 5. If the self test report shows a problem, clean the print cartridges. 6. If the problem persists, clean the copper-colored contacts of the print cartridges. 7. If you are still experiencing problems with printing, determine which print cartridge is experiencing the problem and replace it.

try to put off the cartridge and then turn off the printer. Rest it for 15 minutes, then turn it on put the cartridge back again. If still didn't work out if you have spare cartridges try replacing it. Okay...
I had the cartridge error message aswell. I took an alcohol swab and cleaned the points on both cartridges, let the cartridges sit for 1 minute to dry, and replace cartridges, restart printer, problem solved. Apparently I haven't used this printer in a month or so, and left it in my car and the ink dryed and caused an error.
