Question about Frigidaire Freezers

1 Answer

I have a deep freezer in my garage, medium size, plugged into one outlet. The only other thing I have plugged into my garage's outlets is the sprinkler system's plug. However, the deep freezer goes out, suffering some type of short, and my food goes bad. This has happened three times over a span of a good length of time within this year. What could be causing this problem? Is the deep freezer itself drawing too much power, or could it be an electrical problem in my garage? Nothing else seems to be going out in the garage. My garage door opener works fine, but that isn't plugged into its own line anyway.

Inhave just reurned from a short holiday and found My Miele f1313s freezer has the alarm light flashing. Thoughts?

Make sure you have enough amps in the outlet its plugged into. The kitchen outlet might of had more amps than the garage outlet. Also, try unplugging it for a few seconds then plug it back it which might reset it.

After moving to a new home, the freezer keeps tripping the breaker every few days

My first instinct is to ask you, are you plugging this freezer into a GFI outlet, one which has a breaker switch as part of the outlet? If so, that is the culprit and not the freezer, as refrigerators and freezers will often trip this ground fault indicator because water can on occasion reach ground, which causes the breaker to trip on the outlet.

Test this by plugging the freezer into a non GFI outlet for longer than a few days. Nothing is broken and you dont need refrigerator repair service.

How much voltage can a standard electrical outlet take? Can a deep freezer be plugged into the same outlet as a microwave?

No a deep Freezer can not be pluged is to the same outlet as a micro. The reason why is if you are using the microwave and the freezer goes on it will pull tomuch power and blow the breaker. You need to have them on seperate lines.

When I plug my freezer to an outlet not gfi protected it works fine, but when I plug it into an outlet that is gfi protected it pops the breaker. I dont understand why.

All fridge and freezers should be plugged into an NON-GFCI protected outlet, since the inital start of the compressor can cause the GFCI to detect a millivolt surge, when the compressor starts, causing the GFCI to trip.

If this is in a kitchen, you should change out the outlet to a non-GFCI outlet BUT only to a single outlet that only has the freezer plugged into.

If it's in a basement, garage, or some other place with a GFCI outlet, you can change out that one outlet to a standard single outlet device of which ONLY the freezer will be plugged into and remain code compliant. You will need to make sure that any other outlets served by that current GFCI outlet stay protected, by installing the GFCI you swap out, and put it in place of the NEXT outlet in the circuit.

By doing that, you will have the first outlet that was the GFCI, now a single outlet NON-GFCI serving the freezer, but the next outlet in the branch circuit gets a GFCI outlet, thus protecting the rest of the circuit, in compliance with the NEC (National Electric Code)

If you need further help with this, please comment back and I'll check back later and provide you more detailed info. Of course, be sure to turn off the breaker to this circuit before making any changes to the outlets, etc.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Refrigerators and freezers should not be run on a GFI outlet the it will weaken and start tripping. Most manufacturers now print this in the owners manual.

Problem with Maytag Chest Freezer model MQC1557aew.

First make sure than the condensing coil in the freezer is clean of dust and dirt(it is behind the grill vent in the bottom side of the freezer where the compresor is) If it is clough brush the dirt off after you unplugit. When is clean wait a few minutes ,5, and plugg it back at the GFI outlet and see if work If still tripped the outlet you may have to replace it.
