Question about Sport & Outdoor - Others

Open Question

I have a Nimrod 6x40 scope. It is on an Israeli rifle and is fairly rare and expensive. The turret assembly has become loose and it will not hold zero. Any idea how or where to get it fixed? Thanks

SOURCE: Bushnell Sportview rifle scope wide angle 4x38 T4389 limited adjustment inconsistant results

Hello,
I had the same problem but was able to solve it by shimming the scope mounts with a thin piece of plastic. Put it under the rear to raise the sighting and under the front to lower. I still plan to buy my son a better scope.

SOURCE: scope for ruger 10/22 carbine

Google SWFA ......they sell about 20 different brands of riflescopes, with pix, desriptions and prices. It's a good source for info, even if you decide to buy one of the same scopes at Walmart. Check out the Bushnell Trophy, Nikon Prostaff, and Tasco scopes, in particular.

Also, there is a website I belong to, originally started just for the Ruger 10/22 owners/fans. You can visit it and join for free at - www.RimfireCentral.com
We have a great bunch of guys and gals there, who can help you with questions on ANY type rimfire rifle. I'm sure you will love this site.

SOURCE: I have a 25 year old Redfield 6X18 scope, with an

bullet drop compensation,,,,compleat hog wash!
no such thing in a scope, only a realy pricy one like £1500.00p worth and there not that good! but there coming soon! driven by a lazer for range finding,,,
still your scope has clouded up becouse its leaking
water has got into it, it could be repaired but its not cheap to do, it needs a complet strip down all the class cleand and new seals then a re-gas and it should be as good as new for another 25 years or so,
any good scope with mill dot will work for you, you just need to relurn the bullet drop over again,,and with the years of shooting you have had that should come easy as falling over,,,why not just get a good prised 3/9x40 mill dot and try that out insted, you will be plesently pleased with todays mid priced range scopes treet your self, and save money at the same time

Testimonial: "Both Leupold & Nikon DO have bullet drop compensation reticles, which are similar in principal to the mil-dot. The BDC scopes are becoming very popul"

Sight in rifle and put the on top turret with zero facing back.do not let knob"click".Aim at animal and adjust power(3-9etc)until body is bracketed by both crosshairs.Look in little window in eyepiece for type of animal.Click top turret to proper yardage(200,300etc).This allows for bullet drop.I've had one on a .270 for 30 yrs and never used this feature.

Crosshair are turning to right

Are the turrets also turning to the right? If not, the crosshair ring has broken loose inside your scope, if so, you need to correct issues with your mounting system.

I can get the elevation adjustment cap off. Is there some secret to elevation adjustment?

if the scope is out the best way to set it up is to clamp the rifle in a jig or hold it hard done on a sand bag,,,firs off the first shot at the bull and see were the shot hit the card,,,now without moving the rifle turn the scope turrets till the cross is over the bullet hole from the last shot,,,now again aim at the bull and shoot again,,,the shot should hit the bull,,if not reajust the scope as before,,,

Windage adjustment will not adjust to the right - clicks but does not move the shot groups to the right.

if you have forsed the scope turrets you may have broken your scope,,,if the turret turns to the left set it to the center and change the scope mounts or pack out the scope mount with some strips of 35mm camera film 3 strips should do you,
pack out the eye end mount on the left side of the scope

Is there a way to lower my turret after i've found my zero? my zero is at the 4th vertical tic mark on the 0.

No. The turret is what it is. If you want to re-set the turret to zero so that it is easy to return to for a specific distance, there should be a setscrew you can loosen, adjust the turret to zero, then re-tighten to lock it in place. If you are simply trying to lower the turret, you need to purchase a scope without target turrets.

On the adjustment turrets, after loosening the set screws, how do you get it to go down so the yardage lines up?

after you sight the rifle in at say 100 yd. lift the turret and line up the 100 yard mark on the turret to the mark, then push the turret down onto the scope and set the screw. some times the turret takes a lot of pressure to push back on.

Adjustment Issue

the scope should all ways be fitted with the wind adjustment on the right as you look down the rifle, therefor the top ajuster is for up/down,
right ajuster is wind,,left/right, the easy way to set it up is to aim at some sand with the rifle on a stand or in a jig, shoot one round see were it hits and without moving the rifle, turn the turrets till the cross is over the point were the bullet landed, having a pall to move the turrets for you helps a lot here, the main point is dont move the rifle till the turrets have been moved first,, its that or bore sight it,,, jig the rifle up pointing at a target at say 200yds look down the bore aim the bore at the target lock down the rifle check it by looking down the bore again then set the cross up in the scope on what you see down the bore
you will need to tweek the scope a bit as you havent taken the bullet drop into the ajustment that way,,

it sounds like your saying the turret is wound over fully to the left?
if so the scope mount is at fult...the only way to pull the cross over to the right is to pack out the scope mount with old film on the right side of the scope this will make the scope shoot futher to the right
