Rice cooking I am in Ecuador & I'm not a fan of rice. I borrowed a rice cooker from another "****" & he said to put some oil in the pot, rice & turn on. You know what happened!!!! I am using integral rice which sholud cook like white rice. Am I correct? I threw in 1 cup of rice & 2 cups of water. I am waiting for the results. I have a worker who I have to feed. I eat potatoes. I got "riced out" while on a ship off Korea for 30 days. We ran out of everything, cigaretts, potatoes, milk, eggs, but there was plenty of rice 3 times a day...thanks....John

If that rice when cooked is too soft or too hard.. then , you might want to add more water to it. the correct ratio for cooking rice is always 1 cup rice and 1 cup water. it also depends on what type of rice your cooking though, some type of rice become too mushy when too much water is added... so always have some minimal water to the uncooked rice.

Rice cooking

This morning I have encountered a great many questions on rice cookers, so I remembered the time when I had one and why I started cooking rice again.
The rice was beautifully cooked in the cooker, but it took up too much space on my kitchen bench. So I turned to pots and the micro.
Cooking rice in a microwave
  • take 1cup water
  • 2 cups rice
  • a pinch of salt
  • put the water, salt and rice together in a bowl with a lid
  • blend well
  • put the lid on the bowl
  • put the bowl into the micro
  • on the micro, keep full force and set the timer on five minutes
  • start the cooking
  • after five minutes open the micro, open the bowl and stir the rice with a fork.put the lid on again keep the micro going for another 10 minutes.
  • repeat the stirring prosess, until the rice is nice and fluffy andready to serve.
Cooking rice in a pot with a lid.
  • take 1cup water
  • 2cups of rice
  • pinch of salt
  • put the ingridience in a pot, and an oven safe pan
  • in the pot, now with a tight lid. Put on a cooker on highest temperature for five minutes.
  • open the pot, stir the rice with a fork.
  • lower heat and cook for another 15-20 minutes,, stirring occasionally.
  • the rice is cooked when fluffy.
Cooking rice in a pan in the oven
  • Put the temperature in the oven on 150 degrees Celsius
  • put the ingridience as in the recipe above in a pot and start boiling
  • remove from pot into a ovesafe bowl or pan
  • Cover bowl/pan and cook further for another. 20 minutes.

Rice cooker manual

Not sure which type of Tefal rice cooker you have received.
You may want to go to the Tefal website and pick the manual for the one that could be your model.

Though there is not much to it if you are cooking rice. Take the pot out and wash it as any metal utensil. Put as many cups of rice you want to cook in a separate bowl using the measure that would have come with it. Otherwise take a 150ml measure. Wash it the rice thoroughly with water and drop it into the pot. Fill water to the level of number of the cups you have put in. Wipe the pot dry from outside and place in the cooker jacket. Put lid on. Turn the power on and press the Cook button. Once rice is cooked it will switch to keep warm and leave it there for about 5 minutes before you use the cooked rice.

Info needed on rice cooker Bravett model MC665H, how rice can go into pot, what type of rice, and how long to cook

Hi,
A cup of rice is equivalent to two person, depends how a person consumes the rice.
First wash the rice by rinsing it two times( using the pot itself ) with fresh water, add water till it cover the whole rice, amount of water should not exceed the level of your first line mid finger. After that put it in your rice cooker and switch it on. Rice cooker cooks it automatically.
White rice does not need extra time to cook.
Brown or any colored rice should be left or soaked for 10 to 15 minutes before cooking it ( because it is a bit hard ).
Hope that helps you out.
Thanks for using FixYa!

Need directions for Comet stove top rice cooker

Fill the bottom to the line with water. Put two cups of rice in the top and two cups of water. Put on stove top on high until lower water is boiling, turn to medium heat. For white rice check after about 20 minutes, if water is assorbed and rice is tender, fluff with a fork...eat. If it needs a few more minutes of cooking, no problem.
Brown rice will take about 45 minutes.
I have used my stove top cooker for at least 35 years...ordered it with box top and some money from Comet Rice.

Rice Cooker will not work

On the outside of the rice cooker you should locate a button. Push this down and when rice is cooked, the button should pop up (may or may not ring when finished). Once you see the button pop up (or hear it ring), you should leave the lid on for approx 15 minutes longer to finish steaming.

Hitachi RD6106 10-Cup Rice Cooker

The Hitachi has notches on the inside of the pot. You put your rice in the pot and than start adding water until your water level reaches the notch labeled 7. Remember that the rice has to be inside the pot when you start adding water so that you will have the correct amount of water for the rice you're cooking. It doesn't work the other way around. Rice in pot than add water. But usually the average cup that comes with these rice cookers only holds 3/4 of a cup when you fill them to the top.

Salton RA3 3-Cup Rice Cooker Question

Put equal amounts rice and water (up to 3 cups only) in liner pot, plug in, put lid on, flip little front switch. 10-15 minutes later it will be done and the pot will switch to "warm" mode by itself. Gently fluff with paddle before serving. You can also add salt or other seasonings to the water/rice mixture before starting.

Rice cooker vs a crocpot/slow cooker

I have both and use both for different things. The rice cooker cooks faster than the slow cooker. What the Crockpot does really well, the rice cooker cannot do. For example, with the crock pot, you can buy less expensive cuts of meat and because of the slow cook method, they will be tender, juicy, and delicious. You can make soups, stews and casseroles in a crock pot and the great thing is that you can turn it on low, go to work, and when you come home, dinner is done. You can cook the same types of things in a rice cooker but you can't leave it all day. You CAN saute', fry, etc,. in your rice cooker which you can't do in a crock pot but for dense veggies and tougher cuts of meat, stew beef for example, there's no comparison. I have an Oster Rice Cooker and Steamer which I use nearly every day. I cook rice, obviously, casseroles, veggies, spaghetti and meatballs, all kinds of side dishes and soups in it. I use the crockpot several times a week but more often in the Fall and Winter when I make soups, stews, chilis, roasts and BBQ. Oh my gosh, you have to try BBQ Ribs in the crock pot! They melt in your mouth. Go to Yahoo! Groups. You'll find all kinds of great info for both your rice cooker and crock pot. I have one of the fancier, more expensive crock pots because I take it to work with me one day a week for lunch. The lid seals and it comes with a carrier. If you do most of your cooking at home, you can spend a little less and get a good one. I recommend getting one that has at least 3 heat settings though. Different foods require different temps. Happy Cooking!
