Often times when cleaning the carbs, you will need to remove the jets and make certain that they are free from all obstructions. Even the smallest particle can cause problems. Also, you may want to have the carbeurators synchronized.

Probably would not be a bad ideal to have your Kawasaki shop take a look at this motorcycle. With only 77 miles on it, you don't want to risk damaging the motorcycle. There are really limited options for the backyard mechanic in these kinds of problems. The $ you spend will be well worth it.

1990 zx 7 sat for years. now cleaned everything out and I am getting gas in my oil? Any suggestions?

Sounds like the float in the carb(s) is stuck. This will allow extra gas into the carb bowl and the excess gas with flow into the cylinders and past the rings, into the crankcase. You will need to reset the float(s) to the proper level.

Ran out of gas then problem started gas leaks out of carb and over flow line vent or float problem

You will need to remove and clean the carb. When you run one out of fuel it allows all the trash in the tank to go into the carb. The fuel leaking from the overflow is trash in the float needle and needs to be cleaned.

I just got a 98 ninja 250. It sat for the last 6 months to a year but ran well before it was parked I'm told. Now it wont stay running without the choke on. Any ideas?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The carbs would need to be pulled down, soaked in cleaner and thoroughly cleaned specially the idling jets. The air filter would also require attention, either check/clean or replace. Of course the gas has to be replaced, the tank checked/cleaned with attention to the fuel filter/petc0ck assembly. Check the fuel hoses and the vacuum line for signs of cracks, split ends.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

The jet valve in the carb may be blocked. Or your carb dismantling job was not as good.

Fuel pump location

If the carbs are leaking fuel then the float pins inside are not sealing ad the weight of the fuel in the tank is pushing out. your bike should not have a pump. it should be gravity fed. if your bike sat for a long time and you did not drain the carbs before putting it in storage the fuel goes stale and creates a varnish like residue inside the carbs. unfortunately the only way to clean it is to disassemble and clean them. not something a casual rider should attempt. it is something that should be left to a mechanic. removing them from the bike could save you some money, but not much. taking the bike in to a bike shop is your best bet if you have never done carburator work before. the mech can clean, reassemble and sync. usuall cost around 300-350 parts and labor at a good shop. I used to run a motorcycle service department. if you can do it yourself great. just dont get in over your head. it is harder for someone to pick up where you left off working from a bag full of peices the to be the one who took it apart and remember where everything goes. good luck

1992 kawasaki Vulcan 750 stops running

Drain gas into container. Pull off your petcock and clean all the junk out (will look like coffee grounds). Look inside your tank for rust and scale, then clean it out thorougly.A small chain dropped inside works wonders for knocking **** loose inside that you can't see or reach. Check for an inline fuel filter between tank and carbs and replace if you have one. Reassemble and put in fresh Premium gas....Good luck to you friend....Tim
