Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-F717 Digital Camera

Pictures and LCD turn to yellowish looking

Hi there, I have a Sony DSCF717 for over 5 years. It was sent back to Sony for repair on their classic CCD problem a few years back. Yesterday when I took pictures for my son's birthday celebration, the LCD and the pictures all turned to yellowish looking so I stopped after a couple of shots. I hope someone can help understand the problem. Thanks.

This sounds like it might be again a defective CCD imager. Note that some repaired cameras have been known to fail again with the same problem. Even so, Sony should still fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following link for more info:

Poor Pictures from Samsung S630 Camera

Hi there Iris,

I have had a good look at the manual and cannot see that you could have done anything to the settings to cause this problem. It may be that the CCD ( detector ) is faulty, in which case the camera should be repaired under warrantly. Suggest you contact Samsung and complain.

Cheers and good look.

Bad news & Good News

The BAD news is that it sounds as if your CCD has gone wrong which is the part of the camera that captures the image. The CCD is made by Sony & there is alot of dodgey ones out there that Sony have said sorry about. (type "bad CCD" on a search engine & you should be able to get more info)
You say that the icons appear so the rear LCD must be working. If the playback of pictures from a card also works then it is almost certainly the CCD at fault.

The GOOD News is that your model is one of the ones that is listed as eligible for a free replacement of the CCD. You will need to contact Canon & they will advice of what to do. I have sent several cameras of different makes back to the agents for repair & all have been repaired for free. The fault you have first occurred a few years back now so there will probably be a point where the agents will say enough is enough & stop the free repairs.
Hopefully you will be eligible for the free replacement.
Hope this helps
