Question about Nikon Cameras

1 Answer

I have a Nikon D40X. For ages it's been fine transferring pics from the camera to my laptop. The other day when I plugged it in, the transfer window stated there were no photos to transfer. I checked the camera and there were photos on there. Somehow the software or camera is not recognising or selecting photo's to transfer. So now I have photo's on my camera that I can download - can someone help!? Thanks

From main menu, pick menu with wrench icon, make sure USB is set to "M" mass storage mode. In same menu there is an option for "Folders" to pick which folder to take images from, make sure this is the same as the folder where your images are. Remember that in mass storage mode you can browse the images on the camera as if they were a drive, in windows explorer. You can cut-paste images from camera drive to any folder on your computer.

You couldnt see any files browsing it in explorer? Note that if youre using Nikon Capture, Picture Project or activesync, they probably want to see the camera in USB point-to-point mode. This mode is also used in nikon camera control for remote tethering. Same menu, pick wrench icon, set USB to PTP.

If you can take new photos and browse images on camera then everything is fine at least as far as cam/memory card etc go, becomes then only a matter of why theyre not transferring via usb. Try another usb port on computer? Or even better, at another computer?

We have a Nikon Coolpix L11 camera and it will suddenly not download/transfer pics - on any program and only 65% on the supplied program. The camera is only used a few times per month and pics are...

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

Coolpix s220 won't transfer pics via usb cable

If you can get the pics using a card reader, why are you insisting on using the camera and USB cord? Pros always use a card reader.

Cannot take pictures thru lcd screen on d40x DSLR

The D40x is not capable of Liveview - i.e. looking at the LCD to take a picture. You are mistaken.
If you want Liveview, you need to buy the D3 or D300 cameras. The D40x is an entry-level camera.

Suddenly unable to transfer photos into Nikon Picture Perfect

How are you transferring the photos? Are you using a cable, or a card reader? If you are using a cable then most likely the cable went bad. I have a D-1 and a D-2, and I never use the firewire cable. I put the CF cards into a card reader. If you are not using a card reader then try that. You can get a decent one from E-Film or from most any computer store.

One more step to try, did you format the card in the camera when you first loaded the card in? On my cameras you need to format that card to have them work with the camera.

I agree - I had a usb cable that worked fine with other devices, but not with the D40x - I changed it and everything worked fine.
