Question about Philips Televison & Video

Philips Plasma TV/Model #42PF9630A/37 Lately my television screen will allow highlight areas, especially skin tones to glow a hot orange and the darker colors mostly blue. DVD's work fine, streaming Netflix videos work fine, but the television reception is another thing. When I initially turn it on, the picture seems fine, but then areas will start glowing orange. It started off initially in the HD channels, then eventually the other channels were affected. The Comcast technician came out and tried a different cable box, different HDMI cord, different HDMI outlet, used component video output cords in place of the HDMI cords without any success. He suspects that it's the television. Any suggestions? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you, David S. Tabeling (

    Strangest thing...TV was fine all day yesterday, but when I turned it on today, initially the picture was fine and then the "waves of orange" began again. The auto color settings for "Natural" is Contrast: 75, Brightness: 40, Color: 55 and Sharpness: 3. I had adjusted my "personal" color settings to minimize the "blazing orange" to Contrast: 50, Brightness: 40, Color: 25, and Sharpness: 3 Yes, this minimizes the orange problem, but makes for a poor/dark picture.

There are a few other things that can be done. Let me point out a few to try.

Try to tune the the picture in the settings. Look under the visual settings to see if there is a "Temperature" setting and try different settings to see if it helps.

There are updates for this TV available HERE
I would suggest updating the TV with the latest firmware.....this may or may not help but your TV will be up to date!!

I will try and get some calibration settings. These may help get the colors better conditioned. Let me know and I will optain them for you!

The only thing I can suggest outside of taking the television to get repaired is a hail-mary firmware update. To be honest, the firmware update process is fairly complicated and lengthy. You can download the firmware and find instructions for it here.

Look on the right hand side for firmware information.

This TV is likely outside of its 1 year manufacturer's warranty so you would have to pay any and all repairs. Before deciding to do a repair you might try calling Philips. For a while they were offering a service to customers like yourself with out of warranty units. They would offer to sell you a more up to date model at a discount. I'm not sure they still do this but its worth a shot.

I had an LG 37" LCD that did this to me. Turned out to be bad solder joints on the side button board. Just reflowed and it starting working fine.

But now that I think about, I had another set do the same thing, only it wasn't the button board. I had to upgrade the TV's firmware via the USB service port. Just needed a USB flash drive and downloaded the firmware from the mfg's website. There were easy to follow instructions there too!

Download the latest software from the Philips website and place it on a USB stick.On the Philips site you will find a manal how to go on with uploading the software to te TV set.

I have a Philips plasma 42 with black lines across the screen

I would first check if there is an available firmware upgrade for your model .Upgrade requires you to download firmware from philips website.Then transfer it to a memory stick .Then use a memory stick reader to plug into tv for firmware upgrade.Other wise the set would probably need repair .Possible a bad SSB board or another issue

I called PTS 1-800-844-7871 they told me it was an easy fix. The part is $162.75. Im gonna try it.

You can fix this yourself with a software upgrade - get the upgrade from Philips website - go to, enter your model number, click on the verison of your model ending in /37, and click on "Software & Drivers"; click on the link that says "Firmware Upgrade - Software". Instructions are on the same page - make sure you only transfer the .upg file, not the entire zip file to a portable memory stick.

Philips plasma 42pf5520d pictures has gone?

My Philips Plasma TV model 42PF7220A/37 went into "no menu exit" mode on 11/28/2007. I went to and downloaded an upgrade. Just followed the instructions and my TV is all better.
