Philips Gramophone record player repair

I'm in Bangalore, India and have inherited an old Philips Gramophone record player from my grandfather. Everything works except the turn table which spins. I think there's something wrong with the motor. If i rotate the turn table manually, I hear sound and at the right speed, the recording too. Only problem is that the motor stops spinning after the initial start. I'm not able to find anyone to get this repaired as it is quite an obsolete piece of technology. I don't want to get rid of it for sentimental reasons. Someone please lend me advice on where to send it for some good but cheap repair.

AS I PERSONALLY KNOW ABOUT 242 MODEL SO IT IS PRESCRIBED THE NOT TO TOUCH THE SENSOR AS IT ONLY WORKS FOR AUTO STOP. IF MOTOR IS NOT SPINNING THEN THE PROBLEM MAY LIES IN BEL DRIVE OR IN GOVERNOR UNIT. THAT CAN'T BE SOLVED BY ANY UNKNOWN PERSON.

Hi....

Have you repaired the player. If not, try this. There is a light sensor with a small bulb attched on the right corner of the record player. Open the player, replace the bulb, if it still doesn't work, disconnect the circuit. Only issue is Autostop wnt work then

HOW DO I SET UP MY KENWOOD MINIDISC RECORDER

A MiniDisc recorder would plug into your stereo system just like a regular old cassette recorder would. Line out from deck to line in/play on receiver/amplifier and Line In from deck to "record" / tape line out from amplifier/receiver.

Insert MiniDisc, select Source and you should be ready to hit 'Record' and then 'Play' to start recording.

Can you repaire sr-70?

To be honest it probably is not cost effictive to repair any but the most expensive MD decks.

I'd suggest you look for a working twin to yours on ebay and buy it.

I spent $350 to get a high end MD deck repaired and the repair only lasted six months. This is even more true with portables.

Watch out for any portable with odd rechargable batteries, there are several legendary protables which cannot be used as the batteries have not been made in years. Replacements if found are overly expensive and probably old, used replacements have little life left in them.

What does "eject error" mean?

Your MD Recorder/Player has a stuck disc or cannot eject it properly. Basically it is not handling the disc safely and it may get snagged or damaged as a result of a physical mechanism which is not working correctly - out of allignment or worn out by people shoving discs into the machine or just plain old age on these units.

TASCAM DPO2,CHANNEL 1 WILL NOT RECORD, CHANNEL 2 STILL STILL RECORDS PROPERLY. ANY ADVICE?

Being older I recall these recorders. The problem with them was 8 track tapes never played very well due to the cinnamon roll design, the recorder and players tuck the tape back into the center of the roll when playing them. This poor design causes them to wear out fast and often snag or damage the mechanisms. Not to mention you can often hear adjacent tracks spilling over into the current track you are listening to...

In your case I think the recording head which records track two is out of allignment or contaminated with oxide from the tapes which tends to cake on them. You might try giving it a blast of compressed air if you can find the recording heads, or if unafraid cleaning the head witha q-tip in denatured alcohol or a commercial head cleaning solution for old magnetic tape machines, the solution is basically alcohol and something like freon to make it evaporate if I recall correctly.

If it still doesn't work it is probably because these things are very old regardles of how well they were made in addition to the fact the technology is 40+ years old.

MDS-E10 failed to record

If you recorded a disc and then the deck saved it; then you cannot play it is probably a bad mechanism. When I buy old decks I check them by inserting and recording a disc then ejecting it. If it will then not play when reloaded the deck is bad. Often the decks say they are saving but are damaged and cannot so this is the only way to know for certain.

Error code 13

I checked the manual and it says if you are recording the disc is dirty and cannot be read, if you are trying to play a disc the same may be true and to try and reinsert the disc.
I've only had 2 bad minidiscs out of hundreds of them, it is possible an old one has damage or dirt. It may also be the complex play and recording heads are worn out or damaged.
If you have dropped the unit the heads may be messed up. Most people don't understand MD's are read write and can be used many times. On the other head they record with a magnetic skate riding one side of the disc in the cartridge while a laser is firing at high power on the other side to record. They do not work like a CD recorder.
One will find many old MD decks with bad heads which will still play recorded discs but cannot record and save to a disc. To figure out if one is working try to record and save, after doing so eject and reinsert the MD if it is blank the recording head is shot regardless of what the unit says.
Most MD decks unless you have the upper end $1,500 ones most people have never seen are not worth the expense of repairing due to head cost and limited numbers of qualified people to do the work. In those cases it is better to just find another which works.

Tray cd player door not open

Probably a stretched out loader belt due to age of the unit. You may be able to find a replacement on ebay but need to get the part number from the repair manual. Most belts are available in Europe even if not available in north America. When searching on eBay use the international search option to find dealers in Germany which stock many old repair belts for home audio/video.

Problem with recording

It could be several things, do you have the slider on your disk set so it is not locked?
It you still can't record one of the more likely problems is you have an old deck with a bad recording head. The recording heard are optical magnatic with a laser and a skating magnetic head riding the other side of the disc, so they are read write for up to 1,000 times....
BUT
That head arrangement does not do so well if dirty or heaven forbid if it is dropped. If it appears to be recording and saving and you get a blank disc the recording hears are probebly bad I'm sorry to say...

Can I use an analogue input to a Philips DCC300 minidisk player and get a didital SPDIF output ? I want to use it as an analogue to digital convertor.

On the Sony MDS JE510, if you leave a disc out and just press REC, it does just that, analog in, digital and analog out with level adjust; I don't know if your Philips DCC recorder will do that or not though.

Can't erase?

Do you mean it will record new material but not erase the old, or that it will neither record or erase? Can you play old recordings?

Try removing and reinserting the flash card. If that doesn't fix it, try a new flash card. If that doesn't fix it, you need to take it to a qualified technician.
