Question about Lowrance X52 Sonar Fishfinder Without Transducer

3 Answers

My x-52 unit will not turn on. I have returned the unit for a new one at rhe cost of a hundred or so dollars, and have the same results. I have checked for voltage at the connector, and have 12v. Not sure what to do next. If I didn't spend more money I would get a newer unit.

I have the unit directly connected to the battery with proper polarity, and the unit does not power up.

  • stdnarb Sep 14, 2010

I called the lowrance service line and thats what they said it would cost. So you think I have another bad unit? what will happen if I disconnectg the transducer from the unit and try to power it up?

  • stdnarb Sep 14, 2010

I removed the fuse to eliminate possible issues no help

  • stdnarb Sep 14, 2010

Could the connector pins be dirty and not making good contact.

Thats my next move, unless you have better idea

  • stdnarb Sep 14, 2010

If that is the case the factory sent me, sold me a dead head unit and I'll return it or get my money back, the second unit never did work.

  • stdnarb Sep 14, 2010

my x-52 unit will not turn on, it was out of warranty, I sent it back and got another unit at the cost of a hundred dollars, the new unit has the same problem, I checked for voltage at the connector, 12v. I have the unit directly connected to the battery, proper polarity, what next?

  • stdnarb Sep 14, 2010

I did check the female connect for the voltage and had 12v, maybe the male plug is not clean enough to make good contact, kind of grabbing at straws. I do not want to have to return unit again.

  • stdnarb Sep 14, 2010

I have the unit connected directly to the battery, red , black -,

  • stdnarb Sep 14, 2010

Should I disconnect the transducer and see if it powers up

  • stdnarb Sep 14, 2010

I want to rule out all possible problems before I look into returning the unit again. It seems odd that I would have two bad units doing the same thing.

Yes it can be another bad unit. But two at a time is bit rare, but its possible.Still before returning the unit i advise getting ,----- disconnect the transducer and see if it powers up.If not then yes there is a internal problem in the unit. The circuit board in the unit which functions is not working and causing this,As you have tested 12volt to connector so the problem is in the unit.
Thanks. Keep updated.

Have you checked your ground? You have to have a good ground. When you checked for your 12 volts did you go to the ground in the plug to the fishfinder? Grounds are really tricky on boats. You almost need to run a ground from the battery to the unit. I hope that this helps you out! If not, just comment back and I will try to help more!

I would say yes. You have another bad unit. The transducer could be pulling it down. But not very likely. If you have it hooked directly to the battery and it still don't come on then there is really no other explanation.

Sure, you can disconnect the transducer. It for sure won't hurt anything. But I really don't think it is going to help. All the transducer is, is a resistor. And should not in any way cause the unit not to turn on. But yes. For sure try it. I have seen stranger things!

The power wires are red and black. The white wire is not used unless you are connecting a speaker, leave this one disconnected.
With the unit's power cord connected to the display, connect the red wire to the positive lead of the battery and connect the black to the negative lead of the battery. DO NOT connect the unit to a 12 volt wire, connect it straight to a battery and power it up. Does the unit power up?

Ok, then you either have a defective ubit or possibly a bad internal fuse. It seems odd that the first one did not work and now the second one doesn't work. I can understand the first, but two is out of the ordinary. Why did you have to spend a hundred dollars for the exchange?

  • GetMeOttaHere Sep 14, 2010

Do you have a highly recommended 3 amp fuse between the battery connection and the unit installed?

  • GetMeOttaHere Sep 14, 2010

Nothing will happen if you connect the unit without the transducer connected. it will display a message telling you so, that is if the head unit powers up.

  • GetMeOttaHere Sep 14, 2010

You have a dead head unit and there is not much that can be done. You can try to remove the cover and inspect the inside for a possible solder connection break or internal blown fuse, but at this point, the power supply is as simple as it gets.

  • GetMeOttaHere Sep 14, 2010

Check the connector end with an ohm meter. One side positive on the connector ( I believe the connector is green that attached to the unit) and one side negative on the leads. See if you get readings or place the meter to give an audible sound that will alert of a good connection. I was assuming the connector was ruled out based on some of the details given. By all means, check the connector.

  • GetMeOttaHere Sep 14, 2010

I guess you can't use an ohm meter to verify the connection? Hummmmmm, then replace the connector. Electrical diagnostics is an art in itself, an ohm test is as easy as it gets.

Internal error display

I had the same problem (though the unit may still work even in this Internal error state, except the tuner - try it) and my technician friend advised me to replace the HDMI I/O Card inside the unit. However the card cost is more than a hundred dollars while another brand new unit only costs around USD170 in ebay. That gave me a better option to buy a new unit but seems this Yamaha unit is a dud which could be the reason the unit production was discontinued.

MY CAR NEEDS A NEW AXLE AND 4 BRAND NEW TIRES. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE ESTIMATION OF HOW MUCH IT WILL COST TO GET IT FIXED?

At a shop your looking at roughly $60 - $100 dollars a tire mounted and balanced. The drive axle will run you a couple hundred dollars for labor and a couple hundred for the part.

So total you would be in the $500 - $800 dollar range depending on the quality of the tires, the shop you choose, and the shops labor rate.

I NEED MS EXCEL CONVERT FORMULA FOR NUMBER TO CURRENCY

Here is a very popular bit of code from Microsoft that will convert any currency amount in a cell to English words. All code and text from below here is the work of Microsoft.

Summary
This article shows you how to create a sample, user-defined function named ConvertCurrencyToEnglish() to convert a numeric value to an English word representation. For example, the function will return the following words for the number 1234.56: One Thousand Two Hundred Thirty Four Dollars And Fifty Six Cents

The Function Wizard can also be used to enter a custom function in a worksheet. To use the Function Wizard, follow these steps:

1. Click the Function Wizard button, and select User Defined under Function Category.
2. Select ConvertCurrencyToEnglish, and enter your number or cell reference.
3. Click Finish

To Create the Sample Functions

1. Insert a module sheet into a workbook. To do this in Microsoft Excel 97 or Microsoft Excel 98, point to Macro on the Tools menu, and then click Visual Basic Editor. In the Visual Basic Editor, click Module on the Insert menu. In Microsoft Excel 5.0 or 7.0, point to Macro on the Insert menu and click Module.

Trying to find prices on a computer for our 2003 chevy suburban.

Pricey...new? Several hundred dollars; used, even at a junkyard, at least a hundred bucks. And you have to be sure you get the exact one. Write down all the numbers on the labels on the ECM you are replacing to compare against the replacement unit.
I would be absolutely certain this is what was needed before I changed it: there's no returns/refunds on electrical parts, even used ones.

Kenmore Oven will not shut off

ok, due to the age of this unit, the repair will be costly. the issue here is a damaged control board. the control will run a little over 200 dollars and that without the labor charge. standard labor charges will vary form 50 to 75 dollars an hour and , there is a 2 hour standard start charge automatically leaved once the repair man arrives. this will bring your repair bill to the 300 dollar mark. you may be able to find a cheap repairman but, the price will be hovering in the 230 to 290 range a t best.

It would be more cost affective to purchase a new unit with a new warranty as well.
