My cd player is slow

When I first bought the car, the CD player didnt work at all. Thenovertime it began to play the first song and continue just fine. But ifyou tried to change the song, youd just hear a low humming sound, and now I can change the song but ittakes a long time for it to start playing, and some times it doesnt play at all. i bought a laser cleaning cd, it worked once after that and then back to same old problem. Any ideas what could bewrong with it?
