If your engine is running after unhooking the oil safety switch then reconnect it while the engine is running keep it running for another ten minutes for the oil alert senser in the engine to start working again make sure the oil has been topped up according to the specifications then stop the engine the oil warning lamp will not come again.

I am sorry for what happened to your generator.

It needs an engine Repair ( mechanical )

not electrical anymore.

You will need to bring it , or have someone to

rebuilt your engine, Your electrical components

can be checked later after the engine is running.

Consult your dealer for more details on servicing.

It would have been better to run out of fuel ,

than run out of Oil ( from the manual )

Never check continuity when Engine is running.

But if you need to post voltages on the output of the generator

you might need to have it started.

Besides the coil , it also have Carbon Brushes

How soon after starting does it shut down?
The hour meter is fed directly from the AC output off the generator stator, if there is no AC output the meter will not run. Assuming it shutdowns quickly, check 1st the oil level and make sure the low oil sender unit is ok, wire #24 to ground. If that is bad it will shut down. Check to see if you have 240V on L1 and L2 on the breaker for the brief time it does start, that will confirm stator/rotor has an output, then your problem moves from the generator portion to either the oil sender, or control board.

I have a centurion 3250 watt portable generator it was working fine 2 days ago but it will not start. Will not being on a level and flat surface cause it to not run ?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

Your question:
"Will not being on a level and flat surface cause it to not run?

In short YES!

Generators have low oil level sensors that are quite fussy about their orientation. If there are any inclinds a generator is sitting on you can get FALSE low oil level shut downs.
You must make sure the generator is full of oil and I do mean FULL. Additionally do what you have to so that the generator sits level horizontally.

A quick way to find out if the low oil level sensor has been activated is to simply check spark.
If you have no spark:
Re-orient generator to a level position (15 to 30 second wait)
(Check spark again) If you now have spark your low oil level sensor had gounded the ignition because it sensed a low oil level either from an actual low oil level condition or the unit was on an incline causing a false low oil level senor activation and a subsequent engine shut down.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

I have a new Guardian 40G generator that won't start (correctly, anyway). When I squirt gas into the intake it runs until that is gone then dies. The fuel pump is pumping gas to the carb. but it seems to...

Try to measure the voltage at the connector when trying to start.
If it is 12 V and the engine does not start - disconnect it and try again.

Have in mind that you must have protections (Shut down):
  1. Low oil level;
  2. Low oil pressure;
  3. High temperature.
and this valve may be responsible for them.

I have a proforce 2500 watt generator and it cuts out is this caused by low oil? if I change oil how much does it get?

Low oil doesn't usually make engines cut out. Clean the air filter, change the plug and wire. If this doesn't help then I think you're looking at a carb. problem. Probably just clogged jets & ports. It's very common on small engine carbs. It shouldn't take more than 2 quarts of oil. Probably not even one.

Will start wont stay running over minute and cant find a manuel

Most likely your carb. is gummed up. Drain out any old gas [over one month old] and replace with new. Change the spark plugs. And, add a carbeurator cleaner [ from any autoparts store]. Then start it up and let it run, restart it and let it run, restart it and let it run until it will run for as long as you want it to.

Generator shutting down after 1.5 of run time

I had the same problem with a simular generator. I took it to a repair shop who told me it was the "low oil sensor". They fixed it and it lasted another 1.5 hours. I told my-self I would monitor the oil and cut the "low oil sensor" electronic line. It has laster 12 years as a backup generator running at least 200 hours per year. I still have it but have switched to a larger generator. If you, or whoever uses it, can watch the oil level, then cut this line, it will be fine. This sensor is for those who are not able to measure oil level !!!
