Question about Mitsubishi WS-55809 55" Rear Projection Television
Model indicated uses two of the STK-392-570 chips for convergence which is what you are talking about. See typical attached photos of this kind of problem.
Parts cost on EBAY would be under 20 DOLLARS and this can be a do it yourself repair.
I have start to finish, step by step instructions for this repair in this set--tell you everything you will need and exactly how to do it.
With a email address I can send you the instructions and if you or someone there has the skill you can fix it yourself.
Comment if questions or want the instructions--I follow up when I help people.
If this told you something you did not know, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

Testimonial: "tech was great in telling me how to fix my problem, pictures he provided looks like my TV! now just to get it fixed and I am all DONE,thanks!"
My TV was doing the same thing, although if I bumped it several times it would project properly again. If I bumped it again it would go back to the convergence problem of shadowed colors. I took the back of the TV off and began tapping components with the handle end of a screwdriver while the TV was on (Don't do this unless you are very careful, you could electrocute yourself). I found that if I tapped on the large heatsink in the center of the circuitry it would jump back and forth quickly between good and bad convergence. I then pulled the circuit board out further (it is on a tray that slides out) and found a lose ground wire that connects from the circuit board to the large heatsink of the convergence ICs (the ground wire is hard to see since it is on the side of the heatsink that faces forward). After tightening the screw for the ground wire the picture was perfect even when I tapped the heatsink with the handle end of a screwdriver. You will need to take the IC retainer bar off (3 screws) to get to the ground wire screw.
