I do not use factory parts when possible to repair compressors. I use generic pressure switch, checkvalves, guages from www.grainger.com. Watch port size, number of access ports and unloader availability when ordering. Pressure switches are generally replaced when contacts are burned or over pressurizing to point of safety opening. If compressor is not reaching set pressure look for leaks or faulty parts in pump. Good luck

Hello I have a 20 gallon kobalt model 033204. I just replase pressure switch but does same thing. When I tur on the compressor jus build 50 psi and shuts off.

This usually occurs when the motors internal thermal / amp breaker opens due to overload or weak breaker. Use an amp gauge to test for too much amp draw. If amp draw is normal, then problem could be the in-tank check valve leaking pressure back to the pump overloading the system, or weak capacitor or weak breaker. Bypass the breaker temporarily if the amp draw is normal to test system. Good luck

Why does compressor push oil through air filter when it shuts down ?

Minimum pressure check valve is bad. when unit shuts down air pressure goes back thru compressor and pushes oil out the air filter.

Coleman POWERMATE Lo502710. Compressor runs and builds up pressure and then keeps on running even when 100 PSI. It will not shut off. I do not hear a leak when I pull the electric plug to make it stop...

There is a problem with your pressure switch. You should have a little black box with a red lever to turn your air compressor on and off. This housing contains your pressure switch, the pressure switch sends an electrical signal to the switch to make your air compressor run. When enough pressure builds up the pressure switch activates, and breaks the signal until the pressure drops below a certain point. I will do some more research on your compressor and find out which pressure switch you need to order. i need you to find any numbers on the compressor you can, serial number, model, stock number, anything you can to help me find the part number.
Thank you for patience,

6.5hp 80gallon cfm psi?

MY DEAR FRIEND;
GALLON IS TO MEASURE THE VOLUME,BUT CFM(CUBIC FEET PER MINUTE) IS USED FOR FLOW.AND ALSO PSI IS FOR PRESSURE.THUS THEY ARE NOT ANY WAY RELATED.
IF IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW THOSE FACTORS, ESTIMATE THE TIME IT TAKES TO FILL THE TANK AND MEASURE THE FLOW AND READ THE MAXIMUM PRESSURE AND THOSE WILL APPLY

Motor labors when air psi gets to about 50. I have had the motor checked and it is good. Motor guy said to check the valve to make sure the motor wasn't pushing against the air compressor instead of the...

Got that backwards

When it shuts off, the unloader relieves
the head pressure or you can't start it

The check valve will be in the tank where
the air enters. If it is bad it will not build up
pressure.

If the switch where the electrical cord
come in is stuck it won't unload the head
after it shuts off.

Compressor pressure only to 60 lb psi and no more

not sure but it sounds like the piston ring is worn out or you might have a bad valve.
p.s. its not your typical valve like in a car.

is it a wet compressor, check the oil.

Coleman 5Hp Compresser

All electric compressors share a basic design with ac power pressure switch with unloader and checkvalve between the pump and the tank. When the pressure switch powers off, it unloads the compressor by releasing the air in the discharge hose. You will notice a small tire stem pin and a lever to engage it somewhere on the pressure switch. If the compressor stops before reaching set cutoff point, the air pressure remains in the discharge hose not allowing the motor to start, thus the hum you hear. Solution is to check for the proper function of pressure switch /unloader, tank check valve (if check valve leaks air back to compressor it will load motor causing hum) and extra measure check capacitor for at least 90% of rated valve. Finally, do not run this compressor with an extension cord, use more hose instead. enjoy
