Question about Rival 38501 Smart Pot 5-Quart

1 Answer

Burned pot I received the Rival 38501 for Christmas and have used it only 4 times, Every setting is too hot and brings whatever is inside to a boil/burn. I read one suggestion and tried fillining it to the top but the food on the bottom still burned and top liquid came to a boil. I am sure after 5 months it's too late to return it to the store where it was purchased so has anyone got a suggestion? Thank You

I have a similiar problem, even on lowest setting, it still burns or has a rolling boil. I have tried more liquid, spraying with Pam and rubbing oil on inside. It Still seems too hot! I don't feel comfortable leaving it all day.

Yes
a ceramic or clay pot is the only solution.steel is hopeless for casseroles
same as frying eggs in a steel frypan without the teflon coating
only true stainless steel is advisable

Your crockpot heat unit is overheating. Return it to the store you purchased it at or contact the manufacturer. My Rival did that and I contacted the company and they sent me a new one.

Rival crock pot

Yes, it's not unusual for the outside to be too hot to touch. A slow cooker won't get as hot as a bare burner on the stove, but it still gets hot enough to cook meat. The outside has a bit of insulation, but it still may get hot enough to cause pain, melt a bread bag, etc. Be sure and place it where no one will accidentally touch it.

Lid not a tight or smooth seal

Hi, I have a Durabrand Slow Cooker and before that I had a Rosemary Conley one, both had loose fitting lids but this did not affect the cooking etc. I think that is the way they are meant to be. Use a non slip mat too as this may help, mine never vibrated even on high. Maybe you should get someone to look at it for you.

Hello Ginger,
Do you know if there's a service center in your area where you can get one. Or if go online on the inter-net, just type in Rival.com, it should give you the web site you need to get a copy of your instruction manual.

Rival 38601 Smart Pot 6-Quart Slow Cooker can't get to to go to warm

Here is the manual for this cooker; http://www.crockpot.com/manuals/38601-C_English.pdf page E4 and E5 tells you details of programming/timer/temperature. Check through everything and see if you can figure anything out. after cooking, the unit should automatically switch to warm mode, if it isn't doing this then unfortunately i think it needs a replacement control board - probably not worth doing. If you want to give it a try then post again and we can try and source you the bits Hope this helps :)
