I have a Dell Inspiron laptop with 64-bit operating system and Windows 7. I use an HP laserjet 1020 printer and an officejet 6500 wireless all in one. Both have been installed on the Dell and both will print for a few docs and then when I go to print another doc a message comes up saying there is no printer installed. This has happened several times. I had a computer technical person uninstall and reinstall both and again they worked for a short time and then the same message came up. Any suggestions.

    I am not technical at all. I have deleted the HP 1020 and tried to reinstall and now it says I need a driver. I am going to let all of this sit right now until my son in law comes home and can help me out. I will let you know the results or come back with another question.

    We did not have to use your links. My son in law downloaded the print driver for Windows 7 and my operating system and restarted my computer and that seems to have taken care of the problem. Thanks

This problem occurs because of both printer drivers are create conflicts between each other. For that first make sure ports for hp laserjet is set to usb and for officejet 6500 tcp ip because it use wireless network. You can check port in start menu->control panel->hardware and devices ->printers list. Then right click on your printer icon then click on property then ports. Also uninstall reinstall drivers again . Go to device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install all usb drivers. Then also reinstall wireless network driver and make sure tcp ip settings are perfect as your wireless network. Then check. Also install windows 7 security updated from microsoft web sites then this problem will be fixed.

I don't have a ready answer for you, but have some troubleshooting approaches and questions:

Since the HP 1020 is connected via USB cable and the HP Officejet is accessed wirelessly, and you are experiencing the same with both, it could be your printer drivers or Windows 7 operating system problem.

Be certain that you are using the correct drivers.

When you lose access to your wireless printer, are you losing access to your network as well (still have Internet access, for example) ?

I'd suggest to disconnect your USB printer, remove the driver and test your printers one at a time. To remove the printer, open Printers by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Printers. Right-click the printer that you want to remove, and then click Delete.

I don't think they are necessarily conflicting with each other, but it's best to look at one variable at a time.

Is Windows 7 compatible with HPlaser jet 1020?


Yes it is compatible with Windows 7. According to Microsoft website, it should be compatible with both 32 bit and 64 bit. You can check it if you want from the list posted below.

If you are not sure if your system is 32 or 64 bit, check your system information utility (windows key +, then type msinfo32). If it says something about x86, it is 32 bits or if it says 64 then it is 64 bits. Drivers for both are available below for you to download.

I have had an HP Laserjet printer for some time which worked well with my Windows XP laptop. I now have Windows 7 and the printer will not work as there is no driver for it.

New computer has windows 7 - when trying to install printer I get an error message that it won't support the computer system


Perhaps you are using the wrong driver set. Download the driver from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3795406& . Use the drop down menu to select Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit then select Next. For best results get the Full Software from the section labeled Driver Product Installation Software. Then if needed, return to this page for the Updates to improve the reliability of the network connection and the scanned file storage.

If you use a print server, that unit may be incompatible with Windows 7. You don't need it with the 6500 (E709n if your router is Wireless 802.11 b/g compliant).

I hope this helps. We have the wide-format version of this printer on a wired network (3 Win7 machines). Our unit came with two CDs - only one was appropriate to our installation. The other wouldn't load.

Won't communicate with windows 7 laptop. I have a dell inspiron laptop. Printer works with HP netbook, but not with laptop??


Use the Vista driver in Windows 7. Check if your Windows 7 is running on 32-bit or 64-bit operating system by going to Start menu > right click on Computer > Properties. Then, download the Lexmark Z600 driver at http://bit.ly/cd4MzI(for 32-bit) or at http://bit.ly/c4xCtN(for 64-bit). Execute the file and follow the instructions in the software. Thanks.

How do I get my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless copier,scaner,fax


Windows 7 has drivers for that printer in it's database. If you manually add the printer by going to Start>Devices and Printers>Add Printer you should then be able to select the driver from the Windows driver database.

Alternately you can download the latest drivers from the link below. You will just need to choose the operating system depending if it is a 32/64 bit edition of Windows 7. If you're not sure right-click on Computer from the start menu and go to properties.
