Question about Zenith Z50PX2D 50 in. Plasma HDTV

2 Answers

I have a 50" Zenith Plasma. I power it up and the fans come on for a second the the hole system shuts down and I get a blinking green power light. I can not make it repeat this unless I unplug it for a few minutes. I've replced the power supply board and the ysus board in trying to fix this thing. Any help?

I am a lay person so I did not quite get some of you suggestions. Since it turns on and then crashes within a few seconds and I can not get it to repeat unless I let it sit unplugged for 5 or so minutes, I suspect it is a capacitor. I have visually checked all the capacitors for bubbles, I don't have a meter to measure capacitance (millifarads I think). I have disconnected the fans and the problem is still there. I guess I can disconnect each board and add them back one at a time. If I do that can I do it with power on?

Do not attempt to do a trial job as you will end up changing all the boards beccoming uneconomical.
So as you have noticed that the set powers up with an errror as the microprocesor connects the fan to start up because of an excessive current drain.
So power it up and try to check physically for suspected components in the convergence , drive sections heating up. disconnect and check if the set powers up.
Checck for electrolytic capacitors that have reduced in value or shorted so that the mail rail votage is not maintained. Use a parallel capacitor to confirm.
Nothing better than to go step by step by disconnection of the +B voltage-- since you ahve a new power supply- to see if the fault changes.
IF there is no visible fault in the power section then a possible data error or mP malfunctioning must be looked into.
Check in the mP for correct voltage of +5, check crystal and components aroundd this section.
Do nott replace unless you are confident or seek opinion.

Possible set is seeing a temperature too hot inside the set, can also be a fan in the unit if it has them it takes very little dust to slow their speed enough (dust on the fan blades).

Very noisy fan on a Zenith 50" Plasma (Model 50PC3DB-UE). Should I replace the power supply or just a fan?

if it has only one fan, replace that but look to see if fan dusty or not.

I have seen ones with two identical fans and one made noise and the other did not, swapped them and then knew for sure which was the bad one, in that case better to replace both fans at same time.

My Zenith plasma TV blinks green 4 times then goes red, No picture. None of the Capasitors are blown.

I had AWFUL customer service. (Sherry is DREADFUL her # is 1-877-543-8325 she is in"executive services". Ask to speak to her directly...if you would like ZERO help.)

They WILL NOT extend the warranty, even though they know there is a defect with this AND other models. Zenith name on the front...LG guts in the inside.
Ours turns on, screen black and then clicks three times and then turns back off.

50 inch plasma zenith tv power and picture comes on for a second then it pops and goes back off and light goes to red help me need to know if its worth fixing ?

The set has an internal problem and should cost about 200.00 or so for the part. Available at a Zenith dealer. Labor should be reasonable. Is it worth it? If the set has been reliable till now, maybe it is worth keeping around another couple of years. Strictly your call, man. I have the same one at home and it is sweet. By the way, that set is actually manufactured by LG with the Zenith logo on it.

Green spots/pixels at top of TV screen

I have a 50" Pioneer PDP-503MXE with the same problem - the fans don't run. It appears to be a problem with the temperature sensor that controls the fan speed. However, the fans can manually be switched to MAX.
To do this, put the display in standby. Press the 'Menu' button and within 3 seconds press the 'Power/Standby' button. The 'Integration Menu' will appear. Select the 'Option' tab on the right. Scroll down (next page) to the 'Fan Control' option. It will most likely be set to 'Auto'. Press 'Set' to change it to 'Max'. Within a few seconds the fans will run.
At Max the fans are a bit noisey but it will cool the unit down.

TV will not turn on

Ok, you stated that you get a green for a second and then a couple of blinks and then, it turns off. This rules out the power board but, its main control partner is experiencing some trauma. Normally in the plasma TV set, the green is a go but, if the PCB(Power control board), doesn't agree, the the power board will shutdown the entire unit after giving a few blinks. Its very important to remember that, the power board and the power control board are two separate circuit boards. In your case, the PCB is down and it will need to be replaced.

Please rate and god bless.

Zenith plasma

dont get mad like i did, report this problem to zenith, they seem to be aware of the problem with this particular model.
i gave them the model number and they requested the purchase date, then extended the warranty and gave a number for a local repair shop which came for my set a couple days ago.
so far so good. it may be a while until i know whether the repairs will work, however hats off to zenith, so far, which seems to be providing appropriate customer service and standing by their expensive products.

Power on

Depends on how many times it flashes RED.
On the units with fans (usually the HD models) a 6 blink flash code indicates improper fan rotation and the unit will shut down.

These blinks are counted as they go DARK, not as they light up.

Remove the rear panel but do not clean out the dust from the fans until you see which has the improper rotation.

Cleaning may help once you find the baddie, if not they will need to be replaced.
