Question about Honeywell Heating & Cooling

Open Question

I have a pc8900 honeywell thermostat, and it died. The screen went black; however, this has happened before and it came back to life but this time it remained dead. What is the replacement for the pc8900 thermostat since it is out of production?

SOURCE: Honeywell Thermostat power light

I just had this happen to me a few days ago. I hope you find this response before you did what I did and paid an AC guy $103 for him to do about 5 minutes worth of work. Here goes.

The power is shutting off because your drip line is clogged. Your drip line is the tubing that goes from your compressor (inside) to the outside of your house. When that tube gets clogged up (with algae and dirt) then the water will backup in the line. There is a protection circuit in the line and when it detects water (because of a backup) then it shuts all power to the AC off. If you take a shop vac outside and **** all the **** out then you'll be fine. The AC guy said that when I replace my filter every month that I need to pour about 1/2 cup of bleach in the line (from the inside) to prevent algae from forming and stopping the pipe up. Hope this helps someone out there before it costs them a $100.

It actually sounds like the batteries are going dead if the 24v from the furnace are not providing the power to the thermostat.

DON'T BUY A NEW ONE JUST YET! IF THE BATTERIES DIED & THERMOSTA LOST POWER, IT MAY HAVE LOST IT'S MEMORY. IT MOST LIKELY WENT BACK TO FACTORY DEFAULT SETTINGS, & NEEDS TO BE RE-PROGRAMMED THROUGH THE INSTALLER SET-UP MENU. HOPEFULLY YOU HAVE THE PAPERWORK FOR THE THERMOSTAT STILL & CAN POSSIBLY DO THE SET-UP YOURSELF. IT SHOULD HAVE STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS IN THE INSTALLATION GUIDE (NOT THE OWNERS MANUAL)

Have you tried pressing the 'Reset' button (with the tip of a pencil)? After doing this, you will have to re-enter the various times. It could be that your rechargeable battery is nearing the end of its useful life, by the way.
