You may have to "flash" the rotating field as the residual magnetism may be too low to build up the field.
There is also a rectifier module that supplies the field current and that has a circuit breaker in it. Check that the circuit breaker is not tripped and the module is good.
Check the voltage applied to the field brushes by the rectifier with a voltmeter. There is a transformer in the circuit, but they are inherenly reliable.
